Has anybody tried the Bates method or other so-called natural methods of improving eyesight? I've read there's no evidence that eyesight can be improved by doing eye exercises.

I was just wondering if anyone has tried any of these exercises and if they noticed any improvement.

The Bates method was published about 100 years ago. It is extremely out of date and scientifically unsound. There isnt a shred of evidence anywhere saying it improves vision.

The Bates method pretty much centres around William Bates assumption that it was the eyeball that changed shape to maintain focus. This has been disproven by modern science - its the crystalline lens that changes shape, not the whole eye. This should surely render the bates method obsolete.

Look into it a little bit, it claims looking directly at the sun improves eyesight (which we know now permanently damages the eye) It also tells you to discard your glasses - people who have followed this advice have wrecked their cars! In my opinion it really is the biggest pile of rubbish.

    Hi the lone wolf.

I use a CD program from a guy called Greg Marsh. http://visionimprovementcenter.com/index.php
I try to do the habits he mentions as much as I can. My eyesight has improved over the last two years, I've had reduced lenses in both eyes after the last two eye tests.

Aldous Huxley apparently improved his eyesight using this method.

There is a thing called Vision Therapy that I've heard is good - so far as I understand its like physio for your eyes. However I don't know if thats backed up by science or not. I've looked at going for it but couldn't find anyone doing it near where I live. Its not common in Ireland as far as I know

    Hey,

AGK2007: Did you actually get around to ordering the cd/dvds from Greg marsh or did you only visit his website?

Looks interesting......and I'm also interested in visiting or following up on this.

    Cheers

If you're looking to take care of your eyes you can't go far wrong with taking some kind of fatty acids whether they be from fish or plants. The herb Bilberry and vitamin D3 can also help. I've been working in a job staring at a computer screen for two years after working outdoors previously and I developed problems with my eyes in terms of inflammation and these things have helped a lot.

    Hi everyone,

All of the sudden I just got really reddish eyes and they bloody sting, especially my left eye.

Are there any drops I can take to get rid of the redness or should I try the good old piece of cloth immersed in cold water?

    Thanks in advance.
