I bought one of these and the handy thing is the way the sockets are offset. Usually with these twin layer extensions, the sockets are directly opposed and if you have low voltage adapters, you can't plug anything in opposite them.

iv never heard of anyone actually getting a surge. Only thing was when 3 phase was mistakingly wired into the neighbours board. Nothing blew but the company replaced all electrical items in the house.

I only ever use surge protectors for their thermal protection

Yeah, I've heard of plenty of people who spent good money on surge protectors only for them to do sweet feck all if the worst happens. Happened in my workplace twice in fact.

Don't get me wrong.. buy a surge protector for peace of mind. I've an good Belkin one on my main TV / Sky Box / PS3 / WDTV / sound system but I only use my computer room when I've work to do, or playing the Xbox. Less frequent than my electronics hooked up to my surge protector.

Yes the protection is passed on to whatever is plugged in even if that is another extension.
