Looking for an insurance quote for a 46 year old man with a 04 Nissan Patrol, but with a previous claim against him for over €50,000. What are the options?

Shop around, try every ins co and a good selection of brokers. There's no easy way, i'm afraid.

    Walk ? Only joking.

Try "Trade Insurance" if you have even a tenous connection
with the motor trade. Mates have done so, but trade is about €2k at the moment.

Many won't even consider as there's a previous claim. Looking for under €1000 as have 20 years driving experience. Have tried several online, FBD said no other insurance company will even entertain him seeing as the claim was so high.

Question: How much does his current insurance company want from him per annum ?

€1200, which IMO doesn't sound like a lot, considering. But he thinks it's quite high, and he's frustrated as no other insurance company will even give a 'reasonable' quote. maybe he's asking for too much!!

How recent was the claim? he will probably only have to pay the high premium for a couple of years more. 1200 aint that bad

    He's caught by the (foot)balls.

He must work up a decent no claims bonus now,
and his current crowd have him caught
as NO one else will touch him on the regular private market
    for less than €1200.

Or probably 5k if he even get's a quote...

    That's the thing.
Current insurer could quote whatever they like now, and he's got no other options. That's what he's worried about.
The claim was in the last 2 years, so I don't know how long this affects his chances at getting a decent quote again.
