Noise from gas central heating when cooling

    Hi

For about an hour after we switch off our gas centreal heating each night we get a pretty loud banging noise. It happends about once every 60-90 seconds.

It seems like a cooling/contraction issue as it does not happen when the system is running. I can't as yet figure out exactly where the noise is concentrated but I think it is around a radiator in the downstairs hallway.

The boiler is a Baxi System 35/60. It was serviced in May 09 and there does not seem to be any cold spots in the rads that would indicate airlocks.

Any ideas on solutions would be much appreciated!

    Mark
