IPod Library help needed

    Hi,
I've been asked to look into this for a family member.

They have a huge (dunno what size) itunes library on their PC and want to move it from the PC to an external HD to make room for more itunes in the library.

They're afraid that by doing this, all the removed music (now on external HD) will be removed from the Ipod during syncing with only new music that's been added to the library being left on the Ipod....is this correct?

I'm guessing that there's an easy way to sort this out so I'd appreciate if any one could help me out.

    Thanks!

when you connect ipod again under summary tab just click 'manage music and videos manually'
then you can drag and drop the new music directly on to ipod

ya can only do that after syncin, download share pod, it will take all the songs off the ipod and put them in a folder

Thanks, but I don't want to take the songs off the Ipod, just off the PC to an ext HD. Or am I misunderstanding what you mean?

Keep the songs on the pc now. Connect the ipod to the computer and let it sync
then, as The Big Gig said, under summary tab just click 'manage music and videos manually'

Now you can move the music to an external drive and won't have to worry about losing songs, but you will need to manually drag and drop new songs you want to add to the ipod from itunes onto the ipod

Excellent, that sounds like the logical steps I need.

    Much appreciated all.

Clint... if you have already moved your music from the computers library... i would cancel the sync first.. i think there is a way to mount the ipod withut syncing but the way i usually do it is to hit the x in the player window unless a pop up comes up giving the option to cancel....
obviously if you sync it with no music on the computer it will wipe the ipod and youll have to reimport from the ext hd

is there a way to do this globally?
