Injured Thrush

    Hi,
I just found an injured thrush a couple of houses down from me.I saw it as i was coming home, it looked like it was trying to land on the wall but couldn't.I went home and came back up and it was in the same spot. Its balance seems to have gone, it kept falling over and to me one of its legs looked dodgy. I took it in because there are loads of cats around, so now its in a box in a warm room but i don't know what i should do?
I don't see any blood etc so is it possible it could be a window strike and its in shock? It doesn't seem to put one leg down either much and doesn't seem to fly well?
Any advice i would appreciate it.

Just to update. I moved the box into the conservatory where it is less warm i was told too warm a room is not good for potential recovery. I have loads of feed so i gave it some fat, fruit and some water. In the past half hour it started to make a fair bit of movement around the box so i had a peek inside, it had eaten a lot and was standing upright like a healthy bird no issues with the leg.Brought it outside and opened the box and away it flew into the trees. What a turn around in a short space of time made me feel good too.:)

Fair play to ya. A little TLC like that obviously goes a long way. I did the same thing for a starling last year and its a great feeling when you see them fly off with a full belly and a new lease of life. By the way, what kind of thrush was it do you know?

It was a Song Thrush, my favorite bird too which made it a small bit more special. It was great to see it fly off too, im happy out for the day.:D

Ah yea the song thrush is a lovely bird alright. I think in most cases these birds crash into windows and the like and just need a bit of recovery time.

It may have gotten a glancing blow from a car or flown into a window. Birds often recover from those sort of injuries given a warm, dark place to revive.

Im thinking it hit or something hit it alright, it was falling over and when it fell on its back a few times it could not get up.:( I had rang birdwatch ireland and the gentleman told me they are getting loads of calls about thrushes. He said many are coming over from the UK because of the weather and by the time they get here they are spent.

Which ever it was i couldn't leave it where it was, it was too exposed and if a cat came along it was finished.

Fair play Padi. That's interesting about the thrushes coming from the UK. I've noticed an awful lot more of them around.

    Fair play to ya!
Most of the birds I've rescued in my time haven't been so lucky :(

I've noticed that too. There's a bush with lots of red berries (well there WERE lots) in my neighbours garden, and there's at least 7 Thrushes hanging around it for the last couple of days.

Edit: actually just realised after looking at another thread that some of them are redwings, but theres a few thrushes in the middle of them.
