    Hi all,

Our daughter got her BCG injection a few months back. She now has a big lump on her arm with some pus in it. we took her to the doc about a month ago ago when it half the size it is now but he said it's normal. Going to go again in the a.m. but has anyone any advice in the meantime?

Glad to hear you are taking her back to the dr, as for now just keep it clean and keep an eye on her temp.

    Hey pprendeville

We had similar with our daughter. The day of her christening we brought her to doc as the lump was large, weeping and if anything hit off it she would scream in pain. However he said it was 'normal' - in that some injections react this way. I think this was about 8 weeks after the injection and it did look nasty.

The doctor said he specialised in bcgs - told us to keep it clean and dry. LEt air at it, and best to use neurofen if baby is 3months plus.

Even though it wasn't necessary to go to docs it put our minds at ease!

    Best of luck!

Completely normal. The mark for the BCG takes a couple of weeks to come up. Just keep it clean and dry, let the air at it to help it heal.

took her to the doc today and he took a look at it. said it was an adscess in it so he wrote us a letter for Temple St. will head in there first think Mon a.m. Doc might need to drain it in there. Will try and give it as much air as possible but what with the weather being so cold we'd nearly prefer to keep her well wrapped up as much as possible.

My daughter turned 7 months yesterday and it is still a scab , it got pretty bad at one stage and oozed every day but i was told it was normal and the stronger the reaction the more they are immune later on. I dont know whether this is true as my PHN told me

From reading other boards, I did nothing to my ds's bcg site. It oozed a little, and when it did, I bathed it in cooled boiled water.

Nothing ever came of it, and it reduced after a year. It's now a scab, but he doesn't have the bcg, so I guess it's all swings and roundabouts.
