Quoted companies mining REM elsewhere in China include: China Rare Earth Holdings Ltd (Bloomberg Ticker - CREQF:US), Aluminum Corporation of China (aka Chinalco) (Bloomberg Ticker - ACH:US), Neo Material Technologies (Bloomberg Ticker - NEM:CN).

Arafura Resources (Bloomberg Ticker - AFAFF:US) expects the rare earths processing plant at its Nolans Project in the country's Northern Territory to be in production in 2011.

A recent news snippet about the Japanese chemical group Showa Denko (Bloomberg Ticker - SHWDF:US) was of particular interest on two counts. Not only did it state that the company had set up a joint venture to extract dysprosium in Vietnam, but also that it was doing so because it wanted to secure a "stable supply" of rare earth magnetic materials as, currently, it relies on China - where, indeed, it currently has two subsidiaries (Baotou and Ganzhou).

    REE Refineries / processors

For those interested in looking "downstream," there are a number of REM producers internationally, especially in Japan. In the U.S., however, apart from Chevron's Molycorp, both France's chemical company Rhodia (Bloomberg Ticker - RHA:FP), and WR Grace's (Bloomberg Ticker - GRA:US) Grace Davison division are actively involved in processing rare earths.

What is important to remember is that America has closed mines that could easily supply it with 80% of rare earths for 150 years. So which rare earths are not so available. dysprosium and terbium are two i know of and these are the rarest of rare earths and the most sought after for green technolgy. So if your researching keep these two in mind. There are also some other rare earths that sell for a profit.

    http://metalsplace.com/news/articles/32398/the-battle-over-rare-earth-metals/

Mountain Pass was, as early as 1984, the largest rare earth mine in the world; it produced then fully one-third of all of the global supply of rare earths and 100% of the US demand for them. Mountain Pass has proven reserves of more than 30,000,000 tons of ore when measured using a lower cut-off grade of 7.6%. Much of the ore is at 9.5%, which means that at today's American demand of 20,000 metric tons a year, Mountain Pass could provide "light" rare earths, lanthanum through samarium, in sufficient quantities to supply current demand for 150 years. If this mine were operating and its output were merged with other known US deposits containing "heavy rare earths," such as dysprosium, terbium, and europium, in commercial quantities, then America would be self-sufficient in rare earths

These are the rarest of rare earths.

    dysprosium and terbium

By way of example, according to a December New York Times article two elements, "dysprosium and terbium, are in especially short supply, mainly because they have emerged as the miracle ingredients of green energy products. Tiny quantities of dysprosium can make magnets in electric motors lighter by 90 percent, while terbium can help cut the electricity usage of lights by 80 percent. Dysprosium prices have climbed nearly sevenfold since 2003, to $53 a pound. Terbium prices quadrupled from 2003 to 2008, peaking at $407 a pound, before slumping in the global economic crisis to $205 a pound."

It was too good to be true and appears to be old news as the old wall street sharks had already known abou tit. The stock was in a good position for a buy nonethless and to be featured in a more industrial newsletter is signifigant.

I got in yesterday at $14.20 and its now pushing $15. Its only 5 % but it was well deserved, after my ACH was hit by Wall street short sellers.

Many of these stocks have dropped considerably. It looks like we are going into another short term rally. Feb 5th has that bottom out look about it.

    Argentex Mining... AGXM -13.16%
    GREENLAND MINERALS &... GDLNF 0.510* -28.17%
AVALON RARE METALS INC AVARF 2.37* -18.28%
GREAT WSTN MINRLS GRP... GWMGF -17.32%
LYNAS CORP LTD ORD LYSCF -15.79%
CHINA RARE EARTH HLDGS CREQF -16.07%

    SHOWA DENKO KK SHWDF -4.25%
    ARAFURA RESOURCES NL ARAFF -13.41%

I like ACH so long as china remains popular. It was targeted as a popular stock to short sell when china released new regulations. However i think the aluminium demand in china is sufficent to keep interest in this stock.

BEIJING, Feb. 1 -- Aluminum Corp. of China Ltd., the nation's biggest producer of the metal, expects Chinese demand for aluminum to grow 23 percent in 2010 from a year ago, Citigroup Inc. said.

I missed the rally in LTUM, but there are some beaten down stocks. I have not invested in any yet, i was waiting for them to correct after their earlier highs. They have dropped so much i am wondering if there is a fair degree of hype.

WLC looks good and might rally like ltum but its a foreign stock and would cost me in broker fees. WLC was always the favorite with newsletters.

    Argentex Mining Corporation (Public, OTC:AGXM)

I can trade this on usa but there are two ways of mining lithium, one is to simply skim it off the salt water flats in the santa cruz. this is highly cost effective so much so some companies dump it back in when prices drop.

However I do know that Argentex Mining corporation operate on the santa cruz salts but i have to establish how they are mining the lithium. If they can just skim it off the salts then they will make a alot of money. However i read they were drilling and while this is no indication i do know mining it would be alot less cost effective.

Thanks for reminding me, i wil do my due dillgence on this and try find out even if i have to call the company.

ACH might be one to watch today with the rally in Aisia. I know that china keeps issuing credit tightning and people short ACH when this happens but this is going to be a bumper year for Alu in china according to reports with a 57% rise in demand forecast.

CHINA RARE EARTH HLDGS (Public, PINK:CREQF)

This looks interesting but i know little about it. - I just did read some financial reports on china rare earths and they are a large company. According to their reports the last two years have been very bad for rare earth prices which they say have dropped 30% - 70%, These are also the most sought after minerals aswell for green technology. Their balance sheet is complicated and in one
section they they list a loss and in another section they list an eps of 1 honk kong dollar twenty.

    http://www.google.com/finance?q=HKG%3A0769 up 3%- 4 in HK today .

Its an interesting market alright. Been looking at if for a while now, heavily invested in Uranium but still have funds remaining to invest in Lithium.

I'm doing a bit of research on the following stocks listed on the UK market:

Creat Resources Holdings Ltd (CRHL.L) http://www.creatresources.com/

    Landore Resources Ltd (LND) http://www.landore.com/

I will probably opt for Creat as its the only true lithium mining play on the london market.

According to this you tube video, there are only three lithuium miniing companies in the world yet the price has trebeled in the last 3 years and the demand is going to explode due to car batteries racking up huge demand.

No! Im no expert. That LIT ETF is volatile though. Maybe a better swing trade. SQM is out performing it that's for sure.

The Stock & Shares of any given company on the stock exchange have a series of letters called a ticker to represent that company. ETF''s also have a ticker.

LIT is the ticker for the lithium Ticker. If you look at the chart on google of the LIT ticker you will see that it does not perfrom as well as the company with Ticker SQM.

While SQM moves 7% and LIT moves 7% in one day along with an upsurge in metals you will find that SQM holds it's gain and value while LIT falls back with the general market the following days. In fact LIT lost all of it's 7% gain while SQM held most of it.

So by swing trade i mean that LIT is good for the swings in the market less so than SQM which appears to outperform the market and is a better bet on lithium.

Has anyone done any DD on this rare earth chinese stock. I belive it mines Molybdenum. They just Proposed to buy bought QXM. they have filed a SEC form 13 9 ( Which is expensive ( $5000)) so the actual final aquisition of the remaining outstanding shares of QXM have to be decided by QXM minority shareholders but Xing alreayd owns 61% majority of QXM common shares.

Just filed with SEC this sunday.
    http://www.sec.gov/cgi-bin/browse-edgar?...

    http://seekingalpha.com/instablog/217363...

The company is called Qiao Xing Universal Resources, Inc. (Public, NASDAQ:XING). Trading at $1.70.

It moved from its base price of $1.50 to $2.20 and has retreated back to $1.70, thats a .50 cents upside to watch or 32.5 % upside or a 12% downside. A 2:1 risk reward ratio. I know eventually this is going to get hot and the rare earths have heated up this month. What i am not sure is whether it's price is going north of south on Monday. While bulletin boards are screaming a buy .. i am not sure when it's going to move or more importantly what price it is going to move on.

Considering it moved on news of the proposed purchase of QXM then and it has consolidated back from that; then logically Monday looks good for an entry, but what i don't know is what this actually means for the share price as these deals usually reveal a lower price per share and considering this is a proposal it might be wiser to wait.

Also there is a warrant expiry on Oct 31st. So Perhaps November after they have news on the QXm would be ideal for a guaranteed run up.

    Rare Earths Hindsight 3!

When will we ever learn, Rare earths cosolidating again.

    MCP - 6%
    REE - 7%
    REMX - 2% ( rare earths ETF )
SHZ - 7% ( Not sure this has much rare earth exposure but will run with other metals )

    Lyscf - 2%
    GDLNF -2%

    Uranium also consolidating.

Has anyone made huge profits from the rare earths. I am watching MCP and look for news of any outcome from their lobbying which would make this run again.

It can be volatile. There was a big drop on friday. REMX is the ETF that tracks a selection of rare earth companies. I find swing trading SHZ and MCP based on the movements of REMX works well. As a long term i haven't done enough DD to recommend.

AVL is down 7% since friday, So you might wish to try jump on if it consolidates.
