can you send me the link to this course? I did the social care course in NUIG but only did one year of it (cert level) as I got another course I wanted...but it wasn't distance, you had to go in one evening a month..

What career are you interested in working in?

I wouldnt mind goin in for one evening a week. How did you find da cert course? I would have to do da cert course to diploma to BA, so if ya can give me some feedbak about wot books you studied and whether it was easy to study by urself??etc

I am not sure wot career I would like to get into to be honest, but I have always wanted to do this type of course and cannot afford to go bak studying full time, I think this course covers alot of different care jobs

Hi, this was the course I did, well the first year: (cert)http://www.nuigalway.ie/adulteducation/programmes/diploma_social_care.html

Only attended one evening a month in NUIG, and had a module handbook for each module. For some modules there was a short 1500 essay, for one a quick exam and then we had to attend a seminar (sat and sun) on a topic (usually disability, the elderly etc). The placement module was 2 days a week for a few weeks or something, you could do all the hours in a few weeks or spread it; I spread it as I was working. I worked with a Child Developmental service, my friend with the Galway Simon (and later got a job) and another friend with Enable ireland. Depends.

It wasn't hard by any means, i was expecting it to be a bit more challenging. If you get past a certain grade you qualify for the second year (I got my course so didn't take the place) and then the pace picks up a good bit.

Overall, an easy to do and worthwhile course...not worth the money but worth the piece of paper at the end :)

Do you mind me what other course you did and basically could you transfer from the social care course to your course taking the first year course of the social care into account?
I am happy with the social care course but wouldn't mind knowing options of transfer. thanks

Not sure what you mean by 'transfer'...

    http://www.nuigalway.ie/health_promotion/courses/socialcare.html

I went on to do a masters but did the Cert in Social care just as something to keep my brain ticking as I had not been in college for four or so years... It doesn't qualify you to do a masters, you need the honours level degree, which would mean doing fours years.

The distance course is the one where you go in for an evening a month.its study at home but social care is about practice so you need to have time in college/on placement
