I decided to remove the gas fire and have a proper solid fuel fire. Ive removed the gas burner and discovered a false backing made from foam and removed it too. There was insulation stuffed in behind this which ive removed also.
Now all there is in the fireplace is just the concrete blocks on sides and back.I will need to put some cement on the bottom to level it.

    Questions -
I take it ill need to fit some sort of fire bricks on the sides and back ?
Is there anything else I will need to do ?
If I decide to fit a stove instead where is cheapest place to get one ?
