Does anyone know anything about this place? Has anyone worked for them at any stage?

A great place - set up by Noelle Campbell-Sharpe in the nineties.

Inspirational setting on the edge of the peninsula, with beautiful stone houses for artists to stay in, each with a studio space to be creative in. Last I heard there was a Waiting List to be allocated residencies.

I understood it was a Retreat, a place for artists to do their art, rather than an employer, but I could be corrected.

@Picorette, that's my understanding as well.
Was there another thread on it on here. Maybe the OP could do a search on it.

I was there for a week a couple of years ago. They phoned me up out of the blue and offered it to me. It is amazing place if you're into landscapes and nature though it is also very isolated and you need a car if only to get to and from the nearest shop. They leave you alone pretty much. The deal is you leave a piece of work with them. When I was there there were a very eclectic bunch of artists there but there's no pressure to socialise or anything like that.

The cottages are really nice. Don't bring children because the cottages are on the edge of a very high cliff and it's not safe for kids to wander around.

A couple who are friends of mine (artists) were there, very wild and beautiful and they really enjoyed their stay there..

I don't really know any details, but I'm sure there would be a waiting list.

I looked into applying for a short residency in Cill Rialaig but I was put off by the fact there is a €25 application fee - if they have received over 250,000 applications as reported (http://www.thepost.ie/story/text/eysnsncwql/), and have only actually accepted 2,500 artists, then that is a lot of profit for a 'non commercial' retreat

I think 250,000 could be journalists artistic license. Personally I have never heard before of the €25 fee, but why not ring them to check...

I don't think it is just artistic license - their own promotional material (which is sent with the application form) makes the same claim about the number of applicants and how many have been accepted:
"Over 250,000 applications have been received from all over the world for residencies......Over 2500 artists from Ireland, the UK, Europe, Russia, the US, South America, Canada, China, Japan and Australia have enjoyed the experience which they claim has impacted on their work and careers."

As for the application fee, I don't know how long it has been a requirement but it definitely is now - the application form states:
“Complete the information below and return this application with your cheque or bank draft for €25 made out to Cill Rialaig Project. Alternatively, this fee may be paid by bank transfer or credit card – see details below."

It just seems a bit unfair to be asking people to pay €25 to apply when they only have a 1% chance of getting accepted. I wonder why they are even still receiving applications when there is such a long waiting list already
