    Hi,
I have a friend (Non Irish EU citizen) who lived and worked here for a few years until mid 2008 when he left.

I just wanted to find out how he could claim his tax back? Would he have to return to Ireland and sort it out when here? Or could it all be done when abroad?

He doesn't have to be in the country to claim the tax back. All thats required is to download a Form P50, and send it to his local tax office (address available using the contact locater option on www.revenue.ie , using his PPS number)

The Form P50 is also available on the website.

Thank you for the reply :)

On the form it asks "Are you making this claim on the basis that you are going abroad ? ". There are no question about claiming money from abroad.

As he is gone over a year and a half now, do you think it would be difficult for him to receive anything?

    Thanks again.

That question is asked if it's a case that you are making the claim with the intention of going abroad, prior to leaving Ireland. This is applicable if you were resident in the country for tax purposes, and the intended duration of stay abroad must also be stated. (Even if permanent, put permanent in the box)

The fact that your friend is already abroad should not create any difficulties, if it's a case that he is staying abroad permanently.

If it's a thing that he will return to Ireland at some stage, he may need to provide details of his income earned, and tax deducted outside of Ireland for the year he is claiming a refund for.

Thanks a million for your help. I'll pass on the information to my friend now. Cheers!
