iPod Touch help

I have an ipod touch 16gb running 3.1.2

Earlier I went to turn it on, I held the power switch and nothing happened. I plugged it into my computer to see if i'd accidentally let the battery run down but it was nearly full. Then I couldn't get it to turn off. Occasionally it asks me to slide the red bar to power it off but that happens when i'm not touching the power switch. I've restored the ipod but the same problem persists.

    Help please!

Sorry, just to clarify, it works perfectly apart from turning on and off which it won't do.

That's... bizarre. I've never heard of that. Maybe let the batter run down? Then there might be the problem of turning it back on! :(

Is it jailbroken/unlocked? Maybe you could downgrade the firmware? (Lemme know if you need instructions on how to do this)

Is it a first or second generation 16gb? You can tell by how curved the ipod is at the back.

    It's not jailbroken and it's a 2nd gen 16gb.

This might help if the problem still persists - good luck

Thanks, that seemed to help. Let's hope it stays working.
