Full chords eh:D .. Just another quick question,, what is the main differences between each model.. Obviously the most expensive has more specs but what are they?

For vocals I would go Antares.

Melodyne on vocals sounds a bit odd to be honest, I have it but rarely use it. Antares sounds more natural.

What do you mean 'clean-up' ?

Dont mean "clean up" as in change the sound of the audio but either change the key of some notes, lengthen notes or if there is a tremble in a vocal part to improve it.. Am thinking something like melodine on a backing vocal or a stray guitar part might work..

I use melodyne on a regular basis and find it great for tuning, changing phrasing (if vox or instrument note or notes are slightly early or late), changing amplitude in a hurry, or creating harmony parts.

IMO, much more to offer than autotune.

I've used the new DNA version with limited success on harp and guitar. Found it amazing on harp where I had a good take but the harpist played the root note a little harder than the others. Popped it thru melodyne, straight away i could see the loud notes & pulled volume on them a little.

    Great tool.

Yes it is a handy tool and may be nice for backing vocals low in the mix but if you have a single, loud, crisp, clear vocal with Melodyne at work it's sounds awful in my opinion.

Melodyne is a good tool in its own right but it really depends on how you use it and why, Its always best to just try get the recording right rather than trying to use melodyne to fix it, but sometime you only notice something after a recording session. It can be usefull for cleaning up vocals but over use of it and it will be very obvious that there is alterations and it may end up sounding unatural. I like to use melodyne more for creating strange effects and expermentation. Havent used it yet but the new DNA version of melodyne from celomony looks ground breaking it dosnt make sense how it works you can change individual guitar string tuning from a waveform and basically treat an audio file as a midi file I can only imagine you would need a pretty descent comp to process it though I cant wait to get my hands on it.

Punctuation ? Does Melodyne do that ?

Because it's difficult to read, thats why ... If you don't care enough to write it properly, do you expect anyone to care enough to read it ?

I've done a few commas with melodyne. Full stops are harder to do. For a question mark, just raise the pitch at the end of the phrase, works a treat.

For vocals any of um will work.....

I dont have the new version, have no need because if the guitarist cant play, you fire him.

I tend to just go for the plugin version as its less hungry and the only thing I will say is go easy when messing with pitch vibrato thats when it can go from natural to hearing it on the track.

I have an older version of antares but dont use it, I just use melodyne to do anything pitch wise and then if I want the autotune effect I add logic's pitch correction on the melodyne track and make it pull the note as quick as poss so it will always be shifting / creating the effect between notes that are in tune :)

Antares is unreal ,I recorded a vocal when I had a cold so it was ropey as hell but worked on it and it came out perfect. Excellent piece of s/w.
