Picked myself up a trek 2.5 a while back. i just cant seem to settle on the saddle, find it a tad uncomfortable. Even gave it a while to get used to it but were just not getting on.

Anyone got any thoughts on one?

I use a fizik arione cx, and find it great, but saddles are a very personal thing!

Specialized Toupes are supposed to be great too, as are the Prologo Nago

Any general idea on what you'd like? Narrow/wide? With/without cutout? Gel? Where is the discomfort you're experiencing? Is it general arse numbness or a particular area?

I had this issue when I recently upgraded bike so I went and got a Specialized Avatar saddle (€45ish) at 53 Degrees North. This is the same sa\ddle as on my last bike so I knew what to expect.

I have two of these http://www.roadbikereview.com/cat/controls/saddles/selle-italia/PRD_28513_2509crx.aspx I have no idea why it fits my a@se, other saddles have made me want to toss the whole bike over the ditch. My second one cost me €15.00 delivered. Once you find the right one it's a marriage made in heaven, good luck.

I got a beautiful expensive hand-crafted Italian leather saddle on my new Planet-X:)

    Absolutely killed me:mad:

Replaced it with a €5.99 Lidl cheapie and I'm all smiles:)

    Looks bloody awful though:mad:

Have one of these as well and couldn't agree more. I use it for a while at the start of the season:P and then change to the other one.

im trying to find a saddle i had on a bike years ago to see what the difference is!!

Just generally uncomfortabel, chaffing, Maybe its too narrow, im no expert so cant tell for sure.

the saddle on the bike is a bontrager r2.

thanks for the replys guys,im googling your recomendatons

If it's chaffing is it because the inside of your thigh is rubbing off the nose of the saddle? That might suggest you want a saddle with a narrower nose?
I had a lot of problems and tried many saddles, some of which absolutely crucified and some which came close but ultimately weren't up to. My second last one was a cheap, Specialized Sport. It was ugly but it felt like settling into an armchair when I sat down. The problem was that it was very wide and I had the chaffing problem I just mentioned.
I've been using this Selle Italia SLC one for the last year and I think I've found my saddle-soulmate.

Saddles are so personal taking advice on the internet from other people as more than a very general guide is not to be recommended. Many shops will lend out tester saddles, alternatively some include a money back guarantee (Bontrager does I believe) if you are not comfortable.

Don't listen to this man. Buy a Specialized Toupe 143mm (non gel version).

I'll buy you a beer if it isn't comfy.

Which shops? Am in the market for a new saddle, want to try out a few, leaning towards Fizik, Selle Italia.

CSS. Now might be a good time. In summer the "try out" rack gets a bit empty.

Would second this (minus the buying a beer bit :p) - I have a Specialized Alias143mm saddle which is very similar to but cheaper than the Toupe. Both are Specialized 'Body Geometry' saddles. It's firm but very comfortable.

I also have a Fizik Arione Kium on another bike and from what I hear it's good but have not tried it myself yet. Can say that the Specialized in white looks better IMO.

I asked in CSS and the geezer said they didn't do it. They only offered Prologo (I think) to try out, but that was a manufacturer's offer, not the store's.

Ah, OK. There was a rack, perhaps they were all Prologo. I borrowed a Prologo NAS Gel or something and it was crap (for me).
