What happened on the N3?

Drove out onto the main road this morning around Dunshaughlin and everything seemed ok...

Moved well towards Blanchardstown, got as far as the halfway house (slowly) then just completely stopped.

It took me an hour to get from the halfway house to the swimming pool yet not a word about it on traffic news...

I gave up at that stage as Prussia street is meant to be mad.

    What was going on??

Im not 100% but I'd say its something to do with the weather we are experiencing at the moment.

Mabey if you drove faster you would get there quicker.

And no I'm not taking the piss.

My commute was 10 mins longer than normal today and that was because of the "2nd gear crawlers" on a clear, if damp N11.

    Oh really?

I would never have guessed... Other routes were ok though - N4 for example.

The reason I had to drive slowly was due to the volume of traffic and the fact that the outside lane was not gritted hence nobody was on it.... (I.e. It wasn't possible for me to drive faster due to cars in front of me!!) Perhaps you are suggesting that some sort of monster truck to drive over the cars would be the best mode of transport?

I heard on the traffic news that the traffic around Ashtown was at a standstill. I drove from Dunshaughlin to Blanchardstown and it was actually ok for the first time this week, reckon loads of people stayed at home. On Tuesday there was a 4 mile tailback from Fairyhouse roundabout. I did go backwards down a hill in Mulhuddart village today though, which was pretty terrifying :o

Yup Ashtown was at a complete standstill

Actually, I was talking to somebody last night that encountered the same problem. And she witnessed a jeep and a lorry speeding on that fast lane overtaking about 15 cars - mad idiots! If they'd had a skid, they could have caused serious injuries or fatalities to the careful, considerate drivers on the slower lanes!

The N3 is, if you think about it, an ever narrowing road into the city center that is supposed to take the massive population of w. Dublin and beyond in and out on any given morning. It's God's way of punishing us for something.

Is a bit of patience too much to fucking ask these days? It may have been mostly clear, but you cannot say that there were or were not icy patches. The 'damp' roads you're talking about may have patches of black ice. Some people would rather be safe than dead, if thats ok with you?

    Completely right.

My mum was in an accident over Christmas when her car skidded on black ice. She's lucky to be alive.

The most stupid thing people can do is rush others and try to drive as fast as they can.
You hit black ice and you're screwed.

I can't stand all these people who are driving like idiots and thinking they're hard for speeding and overtaking.
There's ice on the roads... doesn't take much to slow down and use a bit of common sense.

I'm glad to hear shes ok Pika, I'd say she's shaken up over it :/

A guy died near where I live, and it was down to the road conditions. I live in a country area, and on a hill. the ice just sits on the road all day, and I've to crawl out to the main road. The main road looks deceptively clear, and its this road the man was killed on. That was just before Christmas, and a family had to do without their father.

I can't stand the twats that are up the arse of your car, trying to panic you into going faster when you're already panicking over losing the car on ice. What the fuck is the hurry? If they need to be somewhere in a hurry they should have left earlier and accounted for the road conditions, rather than put themselves and other road users at risk.

Exactly, this morning was the worst conditions I've ever driven in, not even the main road was gritted. I got stuck on a hill in Mulhuddart where loads of people seemed to be getting stuck and it was terrifying. I was sliding backwards and managed to start moving forwards again VERY slowly. Some dickhead in a van behind me started beeping and tried to undertake me to take the turn left beside me. Another guy coming out of the turn went to cut across in front of me because he must have thought I was taking too long to get past. My car could have skidded any way on the uneven road hitting either of them, or any other car nearby, but they were too f*cking impatient and stupid to have any consideration for other road users.

Worst national road in the country by (pardon the pun) miles. The sooner the M3 is up and running the better.

I'd rather be dead than safe, thankya. I'm hardcore that way.
