Did you ever chat up a girl in the gym?

Well I'm in a gym a good few months now. But I never speak to anyone there really. I usually just do my bit and go home again. Do people actually get to know other gym members? And if so how?

I was asked out a couple of times in my old gym. Always found it odd as I wasn't exactly looking my best all red faced and sweaty but it was flattering and one of them turned in to a relationship. It usually happened when I was either looking lost not knowing how to work some equipment and they came over to help or when I was on the bikes and just got chatting to the person next to me. If you're interested in someone in your gym just start chatting to them. I think it depends on your gym really, mine was in a small enough place where you'd sometimes recognise faces outside of the gym too so it was a bit more friendly than the bigger ones might be.

In saying all of that I've seen guys completely crash and burn when they started talking to girls in the gym too so I guess it depends on the woman in question, some ladies might just want to get in and do their thing and go and don't want to be chatted up.

I'm generally a wreck in the gym and it would seldom cross my mind to even talk to anyone else....

There's nothing wrong with giving a nod to a regular, male or female.
    Starts there.

I have often read women saying they don't like been hit-on in the gym.

I do remember one beautiful girl. I can't remember who approach who first, but we got on very well (going off for short walks together and her kiss was oooooh so nice).
But there was a contradiction in her behaviour; Like we'd make a date and she would either not turn up, or turn up really late and then pretend nothing. When she noticed this put me off bothering to chase her, she made a tiny bit more effort, but I told her straight out that the signals she was giving me were clearly saying the opposite. That I was having to make all the moves and she was either responding by not turning up, or not ringing back and so forth, and I had a responsibility to accept I should take a hint. She said "that's not how it is". But nothing changed.
Eventually I twigged that she was one of those women who believes in "The Rules", So she had no respect for me as a person in my own right. End of.
Then I met someone else (-:

As Quite One suggests start it off with a nod or a friendly hello, see if you get a response. Do that a few times while you are there and the person will become familiar with you and more at ease.

I wouldn't go right up and ask someone out. At the gym some people can feel self conscious about themselves and this can put a persons back up, they may not be in the mood to be asked out by a complete stranger where they may in other situtations.

Breaking the ice so to speak a few times with a friendly hello or comment about something lets the other person know that you are a regular and puts them more at ease.

You can also judge if conversation with other gym members is something the person is happy with or if they are just there for the work out.

I wouldn't chat someone up at the gym (married) but I have spoken to regulars at the gym that I go to both male and female. It's a very small gym so you see the same faces regularly. Starts off with "the nod" as someone else said, you know, acknowledging that you both recognise each other type of thing. For the lads I'd chat to them if I bumped into them in the changing rooms after. Got friendly with one lady there, but can't remember how we started talking or about what.

I think its kinda good if you did get chatted up in the gym..

seen as girls wudnt be very attractive sweaty and make up less!

does it not show none of thet matters?

and if you did agree to meet up.. you could wow them by looking like you do out of the gym!(nice!)

Just as a note, you were looking your best. Men tend to find women sexy when they resemble the way they might look during sex. So being rosy cheeked, sweaty, breathing deeply mouth agape, rhythmically moving on an exercise machine is going to turn most men on.

I was more suggesting to give "the nod" as a general rule. As in, to all; It makes life easier, friendlier and might just make you seems cool and approachable and that you're not just "targeting" her. Gives her some space, that does.

I look just like that when I'm rhythmically walking down the road! Hot damn, I'm a sex machine :p

I usually get into the gym, do my workout and out again. For me, it's a thing on the list that has to be ticked off. I think the gym seems to be more of a social thing for men than it is for women

I have being going to gym for last few years have made 6 friends from place 4 lads and 2 girls.

The 2 girls are quite pretty but for me I could never ask girl out in gym. Its just not my thing. But if somebody feels good enough to do it then good for you and hope the other person feels same.

I got to know the two girls by going to few spinning classes and then got chatted in gym and then met them out we have few drinks but I like to keep friendship as friendship and nothing more. Agian maybe I just dont have the balls to ask them out either.

I think if a guy chatted me up (apart from the fact I've a bf!) I'd be horrified!

Especially if it was midway through a circuit or something and I'd progressed past the 'rosy almost-like-sex glow' and into the 'theres a girl in there somewhere' look.

It'd be red faced mumbling and a hasty stumble over equipment to go hide my shame.

I'd probably be chuffed with hindsight though. Such a contradiction us wimmin!
