    Hello all......

I'm heading to Berlin 21st-25th of this month. Any advice, particularly in getting in to Berghain/Panoramabar is welcome.

On the thurs, I'm heading to see Loco Dice at Watergate which should be good.

Will prob take it easy Fri and hit Berghain for Ben Klock and Len Faki on Sat. Is it easier to get in on Fri or Sat? What does one wear going clubbing in Berlin? Any other clubs (bar Tresor, Weekend and the other obvious ones) worth checking out if things go tits up?

Better off waiting until Sunday morning for Berghain, anytime after 6ish and you should get in no problem, if you go earlier and get refused just come back in a few hours. Berghain is really the only club that can be hard to get into sometimes. There is no dress code in Berlin for decent clubs, there are load of other savage clubs, Arena, Golden Gate, Maria, WMF, tape etc etc its a clubbers paradise, Tresor is worth a look for the dungeon alone, seriously hard **** played down there and Globus can be excellent, though it blows hot and cold sometimes

Hawk Kings advice about Berghain is fairly sound. The thing about it is though you could do everything right and still not get in. Good ideas would be go up in groups of 2 and go up with a lady if at all possible. Its generally easier to get in on a Friday but only Panorama Bar is open as far as I know so if you want the full experience go on the Saturday.

Loco Dice in Watergate will be amazing. The main room there is great. Very different to Berghain vibe but just as good I thought. The ceiling lights in full flow have to be seen. Door should be easy enough on a Thursday unless you have a big group of lads trying to get in together.

i'm very jealous. berlin. is. brilliant.

id give berghain a shot before six if you have time.
maybe at around 11 - 1, get your stamp and leave for drinks or something.
doesn't get going til about 4 or 5.
don't go in in groups more than 3. and dress plain, a bit gay maybe? usually works. just definitely try and avoid looking like a group of 'lads'.
ben klock would be deadly. went to see him there one night and the queue was like 4 hours long. was some special night though. oh and i'd say don't try berghain on a friday, the best part isn't open i don't think.

as for other clubs, weekend is good enough on a thursday, bit touristy though.
don't bother with tresor though. not great and full of sleazes.
golden gate is fun. bar 25 is really good as well, quite small but nice.
tape, over by the hauptbahnhof can be really good on a friday.
watergate bouncers can be picky so watch out.
oh, white trash fast food on schonhauserallee is good for like, a more normal night out.

and if you're ever stuck for a place at any time of the day or night club der visionaere down the road from watergate (just ask) go there. it's alright, just on the river so it's nice.

the bars on simon dach strasse are cool, and bergmannstrasse is nice.
    hope you have fun!

I went to this market when i was over there this summer just gone.it was amazing, just tonnes of hippys with stalls full of stuff, people walking round drinking beer playing instruements.

Might be a bit more subdued this time of year but try make it if you got jack **** else to do.

I have to say, lately, there seems to be some kind of sneer down at tresor and other clubs in berlin from arseholes who seem to think the berghain is the centre of the world for techno.. there is at least 15 clubs off the top of my head who are just as good in mitte even..wrecks my head listening to all these wannabes..

Never made it to any of the big clubs when I was over, just loads of random bars etc, but if your doing Berlin on the cheap, make sure you go to Lidl!!

Our hostel was right beside a Lidl and it was very handy for stocking up on provisions, a 70cl bottle of 'premium' vodka was about 4.50, and beer was dirt cheap, there was also a yummy bakery, which was great for a cheap breakfast.

Enjoy berlin, it's an amazing city!

i never said berghain was the centre of the world for techno, and yeah i'd agree with you, there are deadly clubs all over berlin really. especially the east. but you can't deny, berghain is pretty much one of the best 'big clubs' for techno. you just can't say it's not. and 'wannabees?', don't be so pretentious.

WOW. Watergate blew my mind. Ended up hitting Berghain on Sat - told the bouncers I was on my own (I was - dedication eh!?) and I got in no worries at 4am after an hours wait (in -15 that's no laughing matter) Stayed for about 3 hours - my only problem was I went on my own. Words can't do the place justice tho - simply insane!

Did you hit Dunkin' Donuts at all? I'll be honest, that was one of my highlights :pac:

Ah Dunkin Donuts - that's a blast from the past. I remember when they arrived in Ireland - all the rage for however many months at first. Dunno what killed them off here as they were gone long before even the height of the boom times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,747 ✭✭✭MikeHoncho

Before mobile phones I always used to arange to meet people in Dunkin Donuts on Grafton Street before heading to the hideout for a few games of pool and as many cigaretes as I could smoke. :D

Glad to hear you had a good time in Berlin. Cant wait to get back there myself.

Pity your not there for the 26th as theres a load of Limerick heads over there cause Cian Frawley is playing Weekend club with Bearweasel and a few other heads.

What part of Berlin do you lads recommend staying in?
Last time we stayed in Alexanderplatz and to be honest we didn't venture much beyond the nearest irish bar, which seemed to be about the most expensive place to drink in Berlin! Heading at the end of the month for another stags and would like to know if there's anywhere recommended for sort of wandering from bar to bar to night club (to strip club!).

Hotel recommendations welcome too. We stayed in Motel One last time and I couldn't really fault it, €50 a night for your own room, basic but with more than you'd want for a stag weekend.

    What?

Recommended clubs are generally Berghain (voted best club in the world numerous times) and Watergate, although if you're looking for **** chart then maybe look elsewhere...

Go to Matrix, by the sounds of it you're not going to get in anywhere else anyway.

    You sad, sad bastard.

I didn't get into Watergate and Berghain when I went over. In fairness they weren't doing much business at 6:30 on a Thursday morning.

is watergate hard to get into? im travelling on my own so i think ill pass on clubbing until i return here with some mates.

    You sad, sad bastard.

    I know. I know.
But it's hard to get a herd of ~20 lads moving away from an establishment that serves their primary needs: beer, football, pizzza and full irish breakfasts. Unless of course there's the promise of some bewbs, then wild horses couldn't hold them back.

After two attempts now I've decided that stag weekends are not the best for sampling Berlin clublife.

Berlin might be renowned for the clubs there but nothing like the stuff you're looking for, even in general late bars and "hip" spots when I was over there very little of it was chartsey **** like you'd get here. As said, if you're looking for chartsey crap head Spain or somewhere like that.

I tried to get into Watergate on my own and was stopped but was then successful after I said that I was over for the weekend visiting a friend who lives in Berlin but had no phone to contact him but knew that he was in there.

Barely got in. Decent club, but make sure you're aware of the fact that the upstairs is where it's at. I spent an hour down stairs between 2 and 3am wondering why it's regarded as a serious club :p

Upstairs is great, more house than Berghein, which is minmal techno mostly. What I did, and I found it to work perfectly, was stayed in Watergate til about 7am then got a taxi to Berghein and spent Sunday morning, afternoon and night there. As said previously, it's definitely easier to get into Berghein from about 5/6am onwards. It doesn't really warm up properly til that time anyway so you're not missing out.

PS Weekend Club isn't great in my experience unless you're going during the summer and you know that they've opened the terrace. If you go during the winter, it's just like a club here. Nothing special at all.

its a bit of a head**** staying out beyond 4am or so, when its bright outside. I got into Berghain with a girl I met in the hostel so it was just the two of us who went, and as she wasnt a techno head or anything, I was never going to be there until 7am or so for her sake so we left at 5am. It was cool though, id definetly go again but id have liked it some of my mates were there so we could go a bit mad....
