    Hi guys
    I have a Marshall MG100DFX and a Boss ME-50 and I want to know the best way to connect them. I had been using the input of the amp to the output of the fx board and plugging my guitar into the input of the fx board. I want to use the fx send/return on the back of my amp for tidyness. Can someone please help me?

    Send -> Input -> Output -> Return.

    As for the 'best way to connect them', using the effects loop might sound better, and it might sound worse. Tidiness isn't the reason amps have effects loops, the idea is, if you put an effect between the guitar and amp, the signal is processed before the preamp, while if it's in the loop, the signal is processed after the preamp. So if you use the amp's own distortion, you'll get the other effects after the distortion, which may make more sense for some effects, and not for others.

    As for tidiness, using the loop will mean you have to have an extra cable, and the cables for the pedal will have to run out from the back of the amp to your board and back. I think having your ME-50 between your guitar and amp would be tidier.

    But tidiness shouldn't be the issue! Tone!

    Yup, it'll be less tidy PLUS the tone of the MG100DFX FX Loop is like the sound I'd imagine you'd get by sending your signal through a sausage.

    Some effects work better with they are applied after the amps pre amp, like reverb and delay. However, I find overdrive/distortion and wah works better before the guitars preamp. Mess around with it and see what is the best for you.

    Not if you're into My Bloody Valentine or Sigur Rós!

    I use an Me50 in the effetcs loop of my amp when gigging,
    Its fine depending on what effects you intend to use. The compressor won't work correctly, the wah will sound wierd.
    I don't use the overdrive section of the me50 as the amp has plenty of natural distortion, but I'd imagine that wouldn't work very well in the loop either.

    well i dont put my delay pedal in the fx loop either. I only really use the delay pedal for solos on the overdrive channel, so I just set it up in my pedal chain infrunt of the amp, after my distortion pedal. the order find best is;

    wah -> tuner -> distortion -> delay -> amp

    order of wah and tuner makes no difference, it just makes it easier to run power cables to them in this setup. however in my opinion, always have wah before distortion and have distortion before delay. I know im not doing this correct myself, as im putting the delay before the amps od channel, but it sounds good in my setup, and if it isnt broken......

    That's normally correct for most amps.
    The Loop on the MG, however, sucks the last dying breath of tone from your signal IMO.
    Thought something was wrong with the one I tried so I tried another with the same results. It makes you sound like you're playing through a half cocked wah wah.

    No, I just wanted to emphasise the 'there are no rules' thing. Sigur Rós and MBV would put fuzz after reverb for a different sound. I think it's really cool, especially with a really long digital-ass reverb. The reverb signal gets distorted beyond recognition for that real wall of noise sound. Which can be cool :p
