Throw in the odd capital letter, space after the full-stop... that kind of thing, makes it easier to read... lose the txt spk.
If you're looking to sell golf stuff, put it up on adverts.ie and link to it on this thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055471100

It's not about being in class, it's just about courtesy and making your post easier to read.
    The charter here says this:
    Posting in "rtrd"
    - Using txtspk n ur psts is cnsdrd been rlly stpd cuz u hv qwert kbd n ur pc so xpct 2 b wrnd. Please don't do this, this is not a bannable offence but repeat offenders might be "asked" to take a break from posting.

No idea on the irons... usually don't pay any attention to Callaway irons because some I've seen in the past were about the size of a hurley and look/felt all wrong in my hands... kind of coloured my opinion of them for good.

You should have got some other clubs, the x22's are crap.

Have to say Callaway irons never did it for me, far too clunky looking, just cant look at that big fat top line, even on the x-forged.

Anyone with a decent opinion or review of the x22's?

Why don't you Google X22 iron reviews, I am sure you will find plenty. If they are the irons you wanted and they look good at address then don't worry what other people say on here!

That's not very objective. Callaway are good clubs, hope you enjoy them OP.

I've always used Callaway irons, from the Hawkeye, up to my current X22's. I went from the X18's to the X22's, after doing some research on the X20's.

I am currently using the X22 tour irons, after trying the Ping I10 for comparison, and I found the feel and accuracy of them incredible.

I have no idea where the 'clunky' comments are coming from, as I found the topline very thin, and they sit so much more nicely behind the ball than TM's or the G10's. All in all, I would recommend them.

Thanks for the comments lads. Was at da driving range today very happy with them.Hitting 7 iron 150 even in cold air and lovely ball flight.I cant wait for the weather to improve to get out on course.Cant believe how adictive this game is.

Ok, some of this has to be subjective - I don't like them (not that important when giving your opinion on what someone else will be hitting) and some objective - they are demonstrably of poorer quality and consistently underperform compared to other clubs.

My question is if they are crap, how are they crap? Poor build? Unsound head design? Poorly weighted? rubbish shafts? Cheap grips?

Saying they are crap without any explanation of your reasons why is just pointless posting.

I agree it's totally pointless, you could say it's a bit like some one buying something and then asking what some radomers on internet think about it, when all that really matters is what you yourself think.

  • Subscribers Posts: 4,419 ✭✭✭PhilipMarlowe

Well the OP bought them, said he liked them and asked did anyone else use them... for a discussion if you will... on a discussion board. If all you have to offer on the subject is a swipe then I'd prefer you kept it to yourself.

Its really hard to get a picture of the Topline of these clubs! it is something that has always put me off Callaways. They have always felt very heavy in my hands and put me off. I do however feel that the tour versions of their clubs are a different breed. OP if your happy and you are comfortable with them take your time to bed them in and enjoy your purchase, its really all that matters that you are happy. Not my cup of tea but thats why there is a club to suit everyones eye and what I like is not what you may like. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

dont really get the x-forged having a fat top line, lots of tour pro's use them.
pro series are slim enough too

Got a set of x-22 tours a few months back, my first set of 'proper' irons after using a 150quid bargain bin set for my first two years playing golf.

They were recommended to me by a pro and I got custom fitted. My second round with them I shot 76!!!! (i play off 14!):) I also love the look of them in the bag and at address. Hope you end up as happy with yours.

Now if I could only get a chance to play with them for a third time....:(

Id be of the same train of taught of some of the other posters here. Tried Callaway irons out about 8 years ago and hated them. Its more a mental thing now, I could never buy a set or try them as i know I'd be biased.

Always taught callaway did great woods though, everytime I have a problem with my driving/fairway woods I go back to my old Callaway woods for solving. So they have to be on to something.

I suppose i might be a secret admirer then in truth.

Anyway best of luck with the new irons Rory hope they work out well, theres nothing like some new equipment in the bag to make you want to get out there as soon as.

hopefully this weather will clear soon.

agreed, a 'fat' top line is not something I've heard anyone say the x-forged have before. It's also something that can be measured and compared between clubs quite easily, it's not really a matter of opinion.

@F22: Whats irons do you use? Have you ever tried the X22's?

@HarringtonVbest: That's exactly what I found, in relation to the X22's.

I think that there is a little bit of uneducated snobbery going on here. I don't believe that Calaway have built up a multi million euro business on the basis of bad design or clunky feel.

I use Taylormade TP forged, and yes I have tried the x22 tours, a mate of mine has them.

Nothing to do with snobbery, and my opinion is far from uneducated. I never said once they were bad clubs, I said I don't like them personally.

Apologies, that comment was not directed at you F22. Sorry it came across that way, it was more directed at the people who dismiss the whole idea of X22's, by saying they are "crap".

You are, of course, correct in relation to your "each to their own" philosophy, and of course the mind has to be willing and confident, when hitting any shot and the club you are looking down at makes a huge difference.

I tried the TM's when looking at changing my irons, and I actually found the Callaways were easier on the eye, than the TM's. But, each to thier own. Happy golfing.

    II.

No offence taken, clubs are like women, some like them thin, others like them a little chunky, others will take whatever is in front of them.

I too am similar to paulof1985... like I said, I tried them out years ago, didn't like them and that's where my bias comes from. It's not necessarily a rational thing - my neighbour has a set of some kind of callaway that's about 8 years old and I couldn't use them because of their looks... brother had a set before too... I don't tyre kick irons much anyway but all I said was this previous experience with callaway irons makes me not pay much attention to them whereas I'd always pick up a mizuno for a gawk. I'd mostly ignore ping irons too due to their looks and it's nothing to do with quality.
I'm sure they are great clubs, and I have used a few callaway drivers in my time. Next time I am in a decent shop I will give them a closer look.

I can't believe that people acyually give a **** what they look like...

The only time you'll ever use them is walking around a big wet field...

I was a titleist man for years, tried a TM driver and gradually moved over to TM club by club. Picked up a steelhead III 3 wood second hand on a whim and loved it, then tried a few callaway drivers when the TM Xr-03 went illegal. Since then I've not moved away from Callaway drivers and 3 woods and moved to the irons from TM combos when x tour came out, followed by x-forged. Wouldn't see myself going back. With the various tour versions of all their clubs they've moved into the 'forgiving' players clubs market in last few years and built up quite a following in the US.

However would't say any of the changes made that much of a difference to my game, it's more about enjoyment and feeling comfortable.

Interesting to hear the number of players on the US tour coverage last night who said they'd been using the same irons for quite a few years.

I had my last set of irons for 4 years (titleist 690's) since i started playing again, only changed to the TP forged last Summer. I am a bugger for changing drivers though.

Like Copacetic I religiously always played titleist clubs and have slowly drifted to Taylomade, with the exception of vokey wedges and the 909h rescue. When the wedges need a change they will probably get swapped out for Z TP's, they just feel a little more compact to me.

It hasn't been a logical switch, I just seemed to have drifted that way over time with individual club choices. I'll never say never about going back though.

Have you noticed much difference since changing F22? I've had my irons for 6 years now and i'm swithering a change some time this year. If i do change my main proviso will be 'easy to hit' above all else. The Titleists i have just now are great when you hit them well, but i feel there's little room for error.

To be honest I have never hit irons better in my life as I have in the last 6 months, unfortunately work/family life means I have no time to practise shortgame so scores haven't reflected changes properly.

I am determined to sharpen my shortgame this year so hopefully I can get some consistent good results. Gained .5 in 2009, first time ever finishing a year higher than the previous.

Rory, I have the X Forged for 3 years, played callaways for long time, there my preference with irons.

Solid strike all the time. Wouldn't worry about anyone saying they look fat from the top.

Served me well, have maintained a low hcap for years.

Practice your short game 80% of the time, it will save you shots and your hcap will drop. Spend 15 mins every night on the carpet putting, you will see a big difference in your game.

Best of luck with your new irons. Good decision.

Thats great jim thanks a mil for youre comments.I think youre right about short game but my local driving range hasnt any targets for aiming on short shots.I like to have a target. Not a member of a club yet so not easy to pratcice short game. Thanks again for youre comments.:D

the reason you wouldn't hear anyone saying x-forged are fat is is cause they're not, saying callaways are fat or chunky is a bit of a sweeping statement pro series are slimmed down from the normal set and have a smaller offset, and the forged slimmer again, the forged are a lovely club imo, normal set are chunky too much for me too.

horses for courses or even all weather race tracks

also must agree the steelhead III hasn't been surpassed by many new models either and none from callaway that I ve come across, its a lovely old club off both tee and the deck, have to say I've found it hard to settle on a 3w for both,
