Anyone know of any pitfalls of storing my bike in a cold outdoor shed over the winter....apart from hurting it's feelings? :)

Chain is more likely to rust due to dampness unless it is well lubed properly!

The spoke nipples will go hard, but this effect is only temporary.

My nipples go hard when i go outside...

But yeah, very little will happen, just don't stick it in totally wet either

cables will dry out, but prob worth your while replacing all them when you resurect it. grease the chain to prevent water penetration, same for seatpost can bond with the frame with changes in temp.

tyres might perish. Brake hoods will go bit hard and if damp might get a bit mouldy, all will be grand with a wash.

    nothing to worry about really.

I store bikes in a cold shed all the time. The ones that are used regularly I just keep well lubed and as dry as I can get them when I put them in.(I have a supply of cheap Lidl kitchen towel specially for the job)

For longer term storage I spray the whole bike with wd40 or similar.( (Use Gunk or similar to get it off in spring). I let the air out of the tyres and pump them back up just enough for them to take their shape. I always hang bike up.Tyres on ground long term with high pressure are more likely to perish I think. I have left bikes for years like this and tyres have not perished. Bikes come out good as new with a clean.Keep tyres out of direct sunlight also I think.
