    Hypothetical but plausible.

The kicker is that the major he wins is in the next few with TIGER STILL ON HIS BREAK. And Tiger does come back at some stage and wins more majors.

Positive: 4 major winners is an even more elite group than the 3 major winners one.

Negative: 3 of the 4 would have been won with Tiger absent. So tarnishing all 4. Yes, you can only beat the field that tees up. But if enough golfers took an 'indefinite break' I could win a few majors myself.

I tend towards the negative view myself. Hoping he wins that fourth with Tiger in the field though.

i think a major is a major with or without tiger woods, there are still another 100 odd pga golfers to beat, to win another one without tiger woods would not take anything away from the other 3 in my opinion, im sure sergio garcia or the likes of ian poulter would give their right arm for a major with or without tiger woods
when tiger woods does retire will people be asking the same question about future majors

I'd agree with the above poster, a Major is still a Major.Chances are Tiger wouldn't even have been contention for one or two of those majors anyway had he been playing. And the quality on the PGA tour these days, a major is a massive achievement, Tiger or no Tiger.

Thought he fully deserved the best Irish Sportsman ever title.

I can see where you're coming from OP, but he's still got to go out and win the thing.
Any major, let alone three, is a phenomenal feat, with or without Woods.
I'm looking forward to Woods not being around, exciting year ahead!

The record books, the bank balance, the trophy on the mantel-piece, the sponsorship all say a major is a major.

To win a major you have to beat the current best in the world. If Tiger isn't playing then that doesn't change the achievement. He isn't guaranteed to win if he's playing.

Agree that a major is a major. I get the feeling, given that Woods`absence this year is brought on by his own indiscretions, that there won`t be quite as many people coming out with the "but tiger wasn`t there" rubbish, should he not tee it up in any of the 4 majors.
