Dell Inspiron Mini 10 wifi problem

    My neice got one for xmas, I know a small bit about laptops when it comes to setting up the wifi but when I use the choose a wifi connection I cannot pick up any local wif connections or she cannot pick up her own eircom wifi connection, any ideas ?

    I'm not being funny, but is it switched on?

    Some laptops have a switch (mine is on the side) to turn wifi on or off. On mine, when wifi is turned on a little light that looks like an antenna turns on near the power light.

    It's swiched on the F2 is the wifi on/off button..

    My Dell has a switch on the right hand side of the case next to the USB port... caught me out a stack of time... it get moved when you slip the lappy into it's case.

    the dell mini 10v uses a dell wireless program to control the wireless in windows, not sure what its called but its not the default windows application

    Thanks All, I have googled the problem an free software called Ubantu is needed I think ?

    Ubuntu is an operating system - so you'd install it instead of Microsoft Windows (which is what I'm assuming your niece has?)
