Ok a few months ago my ex and i broke up - clearly i was gutted when things ended and still am really..
I was with him a year - but i felt so comfortable with him that i couldnt see myself wanting to be with anyone else but him.. still have feelings for him but clearly as we do not speak anymore nothing will ever happen again with him. I was witha guy for five years before him and now i find myself at nearly 27 and single really for the first time in years..
thing i i feel totally lost being single.. yeah i guess one could say im a serial monogamist! not really proud of that i guess but i dont really know where to start in getting my life back on track.. i know the whole keep busy, hobbies, friends.. i have all that stuff.. but something still feels empty

ive recently joined one of them internet site things to see what the craic is... why not as they say! anybody have any experience with them - good or horror stories??

You just have to give it a go. Dont expect a miracle and dont blab about how great your job is etc (some date told me the previous date he was on kept going on about that and didnt even smile or make jokes).

Its alright, its nice meeting people and keeps your mind of your ex. However I find people are really eager to go on a date, but then a follow up date is quite difficult to arrange. Im not sure if this is because they are still looking and busy dating other people. I find that I have to make all the effort to contact them which has never happened to me before (i previously met guys just out and they were very eager to progress things and always contacting/ringing me).

Important thing is to meet the person soon as possible to see if there is physical chemistry. Its more difficult to tell then if there is chemistry compared to meeting someone in a nightclub and lust at 1st sight. It has its advantages and disadvantages.

The main advantage is that you can choose some qualities like non smoker etc. Then you will chat to them in a neutral atmosphere...ie not some drunk pissed end of night occassion.

I've done it a good bit. Chemistry is impossible to judge over the internet, so I met a lot of nice guys who I had coffee with for an hour and that was it. But occasionally things clicked for better and I'd date someone for a while. So you can end up doing a good bit of legwork.

Because of the chemistry issue, I prefer to meet sooner rather than later (ie not spending weeks email something only to meet and have no attraction). Also start with a quick coffee or beer or such - never get roped into an entire meal or something extensive for the beginning.

And, of course, everyone choose the most flattering profile picture.

i had never ever internet dated b4 and gave it a try recently. Like you - i was out of a long term relatonship and I was soo sceptical about it but met a lovely guy on it and im delighted i gave it a go. He's the first guy i met on it. Sex is amazing - he's not irish (american) and he's open to lots of stuff :) ok - my point is - just give it a go.

I agree with the above posts, it is worth giving it a go, you never know who you might meet and it can be a real boost to your confidence especially after a break up.

I dabbled a little bit after the break up of a long term relationship and i met a lot of really interesting guys. Sorry to say none of them developed into relationships but it was fun for a while and you get to meet people you may not come into contact with in other social situations. It is a bit of a laugh.

It is a good idea to meet up early on so as not to waste your time and just go for a coffee or something, see how it goes.

In my group of friends i know of 2 couples that met online through a dating site so it does happen.

    Just have fun!
