UTV just advertising their 6 news as "an interview with Peter Robinson on his "troubled" marriage and his plans for the future".

It should be noted that his wife Iris lectured others on their morality in the House of Commons " There can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children

Maybe she was having a lesbian affair - and with a Catholic woman at that !!! :D

I think you are letting your bigotry interfere in what is a genuine illness.

Iris Robinson is a manic depressive, Peter R is speaking on RTE right now.

Siad she had an affair and then tried to take her own life.
Maybe the affair led to a crying game moment and the shower just wasnt enough to wash away the shame.

Sad watching him on RTE News.

He should be allowed deal with this behind closed doors.

Well I agree. Ok, I started off having a jibe at a political figure and religious fundamentalist, but obviously these other issues are very regrettable, though as Jigga above says, people in glass houses.

I would be more inclined to agree with this if his wife and his party did not constantly seek to intervene in other peoples private lives.

If it wasnt for a fear of what might replace him he probably should be called on to stand aside to deal with the matter, because he sure as hell aint got his eyes on the job at the moment

Man deserves respect for coming out and facing the music.

I'm not trying to put the boot in, but is a person of her mental state capable of serving as an MP ?

( Maybe this is off topic and belongs to a political discussion but is there any protocol if someone's mental health is making them unfit to serve as an MP or TD or whatever ? )

Not really his hand was forced, the only reason Iris stepped down as they knew the story was becoming public knowledge.

I do on a personal level feel sorry for Peter but both were setting themselves up for it.

I agree. But if he hadn't spoken publicly the rumour mill would have been in overdrive and it would have been harder on their children.

It's very sad for their children. I don't like the couple at all and their statements and views in the past. But this is incredibly sad for them as a family, especially for the kids. He was probably right to do a press conference. At least, for the sake of their children, there was some dignity.

Peter even said in his report that it was 12 midnight, Mar 1st that he found out about the affair, and that it was after this that she tried to commit suicide............can you imagine that house that night!!

(and aside.......I spotted that Dad card too, well placed!)

Looks like a scandal of Fianna Fail proportions......I think it was programmes like Dallas and Dynasty back in the 80's that gave all the good Christian Brothers boys of future FF and all the young fundamentalists of the Free Presbyterians their naughty ideas and greed for money. JR Ewing has a lot to answer for.

Paisley Jr had questions to answer on this own dealings in relation to a planning application for Giants causeway.

Well that was Iris's quote. Whether it was her delusions or not I'm not sure. Typical DUP to be honest, though you would be making a good case to say that anyone who followed Paisley's ravings has got to be delusional anyway.

Would it be that surprising if it turned out that Iris was a closet case?

Often those who shout the loudest are the ones with something to hide.

He referred to her "inappropriate" affair.

Could it possibly have been a case of bestiality or worse still, horror of horrors could it have been with a fenian.

That would count as necrophilia would it not ?

Not according to to many loyalists up north who maintain that the country is overrun with "Fenian Bastards", alive and kicking.

This isn't really a topic suited to television.

There is a thread on this in Politics (note mod warning in Post #5 before contributing), and After Hours for the lighter side.
