hello, recently iv noticed my hairline has receeded quite a bit (nw1/2) after researching different options, i decided that while getting a swine flu vac id ask my gp about proscar, she is very maternal and conventional. she basically said oh dont u worry my two sons are basically bald now and they just shave their head every two weeks so don't you worry. naturally... i worried.

i was wondering if anybody knew a proscar friendly GP that i could go to without having to pay hundreds to go to blackrock clinic etc. thanks in advance for any help

That's an odd response on her part. I'd say most GPs would be open to it - maybe find a male GP?

As an aside, I use Regain and find it works pretty well (to keep hair, it doesn't really regrow it) and doesn't need a prescription.

Most gp's wouldnt have a problem prescribing proscar. Whatever you do dont bother with blackrock clinic or any "hair clinic" for that matter. I use proscar myself, been using it three years and my hair is the same if not better than when I started. I am a NW3. Also, dont use rogaine as a substitute for proscar, they dont work in the same way and rogaine wont halt the balding process, it will just give you an offset of growth.

    Why not??

Well maybe if you're talking about hair transplants and the like. They will prescribe proscar if suitable and monitor the results. Considering 6 month prescriptions can be obtained, the consultation fees you pay in a year amount to little more than a few GP visits.

You dont need anyone to monitor your results. I get 6 month prescriptions from my doctor without the need for any consultation. A bit of research into proscar (finasteride) will give you all the info you need to treat and monitor your own situation.
