I hope it's ok to mention these names in here.
We're looking at both at the moment and Keylights are coming in generally cheaper than Velux - but has anyone any opinions on quality differences?
Partner wants to go with V as they're around longer etc. I want to go with the cheaper option as I don't see the difference in quality. Does anyone have any experience with either??

First up its fine for names to be posted in these circumstances.

Secondly I have never seen any difference in the performance or quality. Its really down to opinion and perhaps others who have used them may offer their thoughts here.

    having fitted both of them
id go with the velux (better quality)
but if cost is an issue ,go with the keylite

both do the same job ,its just that velux is built that bit better
i found the fittings and flashings that come with the keylite ,flimsy .....cheap

VELUX are best, having fitted them all even the fakro,i still think velux is best, easy to get blinds and accessories for too,i am a carpenter and since 1980 i have seen many rooflights come and go but the velux,in my opinion,is best,as previous poster said others are flimsy.

Hmmm... So far looks like partner is winning on this one:)
There's about €400 difference: €1850 for Keylites Vs €2250 for Velux, in price which is a lot when put down here but as we're doing a whole build maybe we're better off going for the quality here....?? U values/insulation/airtightness is huge for us in this build and we're putting the bulk of our money into sealing up the house so maybe we need to continue that here... One more decision in self build land...
I presume performance with regard to the insulation etc. is generally the same in both?
Thanks for opinions. Would appreciate any more!

As smelly fingers says, there is a blinds issue here (yes, she will want blinds). That €400 saving could erode very quickly.

Hi selfbuildache, did you end up running with Keylite and if so how did you find them? I am strongly considering running with keylite for myself build. I got a sample window from them, it looks really well manufactured, and it has an integral blind option (within the glazing) which Velux don't seem to do a version of. :)

    VELUX all the way baby.:D

As a roofer , in the installation and afther service NO sky light can be as goog as velux , as the previous post says veluxs all the way baby . I have to say the same the Keylite flashings are very flimizy compered to the velux and the amount of trouble we had with the keylite is to much to bare so i allways go for the velux even if there more costly put youll save it on the call back to keylite roof windows , As long as i have been roofing i never had to be called back to a velux brand window .

I have keylites, got them becasue they're cheaper. They are perfect you wouldn't even notice the difference. Our carpenter siad there was very little difference and advised us to go with the cheaper to save ourselves a few quid. Had velux in my last house and i certainly wouldn't have said they were noticably better.
    Keylites certainly aren't flimsy.

Keylite have improved their windows recently, most builders and self builds I know are going with Keylite now as there is very little difference between the two in quality but there's roughly 10% difference in the price.
