    Why would they be closed?

Well considering its snowing here with hours, and that most of the teachers in St. Declans come from places outside of waterford, wouldn't it make it very hard for them to get down?

WLR FM seem to be reading out a lengthy list of all the schools in the city and county. Heard it twice on the way home so they will probably call it out again.

Wheres the sense in closing the city secondary schools, but not the primary schools? Wouldnt a 15 year old be able for an icey path more than a 7 year old?

thats ridiculous that the mercy primary is open when the secondary is closed..they are next door to each other on the same entrance nearly!makes no sence..I'd say the primary just hasn't given word yet.i doubt it'll be open

That's because the Secondary caters for a bigger catchment area including South Kilkenny,Kilmeaden,Butlerstown etc where as the primary would be mostly local surrounding areas.

The decision to open or close might well be based on whether or not the staff could reach the school rather than being based on the children's ability to arrive.

Waterpark School Has Rung To Say Due To The Water Supply Into The School Has Now Frozen He Will Have To Close The School And The Parents Are Asked To Collect Their Children - The School Will Remian Closed Tomorrow.*

*I didn't type this btw lol, I hope the Principal didn't either!

The Principal of Waterpark primary school was interviewed by Billy McCarthy and admitted that it was 7am this morning when he became aware that the pipes were frozen. Plenty of time to notify parents rather than have them trek to school, accept them and then at 9.45am decide to close the school until next Monday and have to notify parents/minders to come back and collect their children. Cop on goes a long way.

yeah thats annoying alright, the poor kids being dragged out in this cold and then sent home.

Although better they are safe then have a ceiling collapse on them or something, that happened over the holidays in a school up the country, a ceiling actually fell down when the principal was inspecting the place, doesn't bear thinking about

It may be a case of misplaced "pride" at trying to one of the few who wanted to say they kept their school open.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,682 ✭✭✭deisemum

De La Salle and Ballygunner NS are re-opening tomorrow due to improved weather and road conditions. Boys not happy ;)

Ha Ha, tell them it could be worse. They could be working in cork and not after getting any time off. :)

Just wondering if anyone has heard if they are re opening today. Mount Sion Primary in particular. I know they said on WLR last night both primary and secondary are open but they also said they can change if need be too. Thanks :)

Following the Minister's announcement about all schools to close until Thursday 14th next, Does this mean the city schools will close whether or not the weather is as bad as they say it's going to get next week... a few of the junior schools were open yesterday and today...

Yep. All schools closed. Up to today, individual schools were making the decisions.

Didn't hear the interview or know anybody in the school or anything about frozen pipes... but maybe they were trying to solve the problem before hastily closing the school? My mammy's a principal and was so stressed about the open/close decision for Thursday. It's not a small thing to just close the school in the morning when parents have to work etc. She decided to open and lucklily all was fine...though a few teachers had 4 kids out of 20!!!

Got the text message from De La Salle, no school tomorrow and tomorrow they'll decide on Wednesday.

Haven't had a text from Ballygunner and it's normally very quick to text info.
