i returned a laptop to laptopsdirect and the the replacement arrived today. but during windows setup i keep getting this message

“The computer restarted unexpectedly or has encountered an unexpected
error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click OK to restart your computer and then restart installation."

everytime i hit ok, it restarts, and shows the same message. i rang them, but due to understaffing (weather in the uk) i have to wait for a call back.

so i thought id ask here in the mean time.

i didnt get a vista cd with the laptop, and this is the one in question

thanks if anyone has any advice!

after much searching, i found out that acer laptops have a built in restore function. im sure all other laptops have one too

for anyone with an ACER if you have a problem like this in the future, as soon as you start your laptop, press

    ALT + F10

this will start a restore program. and it sorted my problem out quickly (gives you the option to save documents and music etc)

thanks! hope this helps in future
