Okay, so I'm thinking of getting braces, but not ones that are too obvious. I'm thinking invisalign/clearstep/ceramic coloured. Anyone have any idea of prices? I'd be getting the work done in the Midlands (Westmeath / Offaly).

Also, is there any way a portion of this can be claimed back off health insurance or tax? I'm with BUPA/Quinn.

Thanks for your help, fellow boardsies!

    Hi there

For ceramics you are talking about 3.5k- 4k. You cannot claim from your health insurance but you can claim back tax at 20%, the orthodontist will give you the relevant form (med2) to send into the revenue

Invisalign costs about 3500 for both upper and lower sets of aligners.

Hey I'm going in to get mine on Saturday morn. I didn't know I could claim 20% back on tax. I've downloaded the form myself anyhow.

Mine are costing approx 4200e and the dentist is going to let me pay off bit by bit over the course of the treatment once I pay the full 4200e by end of treatment. Anyone know how this will affect my tax claim? Will I need to wait til payment is made in full until I claim it back?

At the end of each calender year you submit your claim for whatever amount you paid that year.

    Hi mark

invisalign/clearstep upper and lower would be about 4500 to 5000, upper and lower ceramic traintracks about 4500.

You can claim 20% in tax relief as has been mentioned but there is an excess applied by Revenue, it is 150 or 170 i think, but not too sure.

If you have a specific Dental plan, eg De Care as part of VHI you can also claim some of the cost. Otherwise private health insurance doesnt pay anything. Finally if you are a garda, ESB worker or prison officer, they have specific health plans that do pay for ortho

I will complete my Invisalign term this Friday. I am so happy with the result, and the experience was fine. I'd wanted to sort out my crooked teeth for years but never had the nerve cos of the unsightly (as I thought) "train tracks" so I was delighted to hear about Invisalign. :D

Invisalign is available for 4000 euro (upper and lower) in the Clane, Co. Kildare region.

Hi Lebowski or can I call you the dude?

4000 is a good price considering the very high lab fees for Invisalign but the provider is not an orthodontist as far as I know
