    Hello,

I am a woman of 28 I want to find a good christian prayer group in dublin. I am catholic but I was told that christian groups like the evangelistic and pentecostal categories are accepting, welcoming and non judgemental and the people in them actually want to be like Jesus in thought, word and action. I believe being a catholic and christian the main focus and goal is to be like Jesus I dont see that much in the catholic faith. Is there any holy christain like that in Dublin at all?

You would be very welcome wherever you go.

Have you a preferred location in Dublin? - posters here may be able to make some suggestions

Hi, aislingm137, I would recommend heading to CORE Church, Vicar Street. It's CoI but with an evangelical outlook in terms of worship. People are friendly and inviting and last time I was there - I've not been in Ireland for about 8 months - they ran a weekly home group.

It might not be your cup of tea, but it's worth a shot if only for the free biscuits!

you could try St Marks church, its quite near pearse station, though i dont know the street name. i know a few people there myself and it is quite good.

there is always some problem with a group if they do not accept you

Aisiling I understand what you mean, when I first came back to Christ, I came to a Holy Rosary group with my Christian Community Bible, I was full of the joys of Christ and praying the rosary and reading the Bible like mad.

It was the Legion of Mary group and my idea to bring the Bible was to start a Bible group as I felt it would be great for the kids, the woman turned to me and said ''stephen, is there any need for that Bible? arent you taking religion a little bit too far?'' well...you can imagine my reaction, i stood up with such anger and I stomped out of the room and I never returned to the group. However this didnt prevent me from remaining in the Catholic church as I found groups that were full of Joy and spirituality, but I soon learned that her words to me were never willed by Christ and that I shouldnt be looking to see joy in other people, or expect them to be perfect like Jesus, I looked at my own imperfections and decided to put into practice my faith and bring joy to people.

for example I was in local supermarket just 30mins ago, giving out about how rude the staff were to me and that I'd never shop there again but then I realized...wait a minute... why should I allow the staff to dictate to me were I should get my shopping?

My dear aisling we should never should judge truth by conduct, both the catholic church and protestants have our fair share of sins by all the replies of these protestant evangelicals who know what I'm talking about by the way never mentioned it to you and of course they'd be taking you into their church on the grounds of dishonesty by not doing so, because if the tables were turned for a moment and you came in giving out that you were leaving a protestant church because in their groups you found no joy they'd say the exact same thing I said to you.

    God bless
    Stephen

It's up to the OP to decide what form of Christianity she wants to embrace, but I think it's great and personally encouraging that she wants to come to know God more irrespective of what church.

I'm leaving it up to her what church she wants to go to, but I'm letting her know I was in the same position as her and realised my fault.

I think its great too that she wants to get to know God more, and I'm telling her that I got to know God by remaining in the church I was in, I didnt have to go anywhere else for it.

Jakass you said it yourself weeks ago after my debate with Paul dunbar about the conduct of people within a church you said to me that you were right stephen we should be looking to God not to men.

I think you did a good job addressing the issues, and I even listened to it. I also think that you have a good knowledge of Scripture. I just think as long as the OP is able to find God and learn more about Him it doesn't matter really what church this person is involved in as long as they teach sound doctrine.

Well Jakass I was just about to put me feet up and have a quiet evening with the wife but before I do I must bring to your attention the errors of your post.

It does matter what church we go to, the Catholic church is the ark of salvation, that teaches sound doctrine, but the protestant churches teach different doctrines therefore both cannot be sound doctrine there is only one truth thus it does matter what church we go to, again the choice is aislings whom I love dearly but I remained where I am and I'm seriously glad I did.

Good night and God bless, hope you have a good evening.

Is there salvation outside of the Roman Catholic Church in your opinion?

Trinity Church Network might be your cup of tea. Non-judgmental and certainly welcoming of all sorts. They've a number of 'outlets' Lucan, Artane and the main church in the fantasically renovated "Exchange" at the town end of Gardiner St.

The link is a little slow to load but bare with it. No doubt there are a couple of podcasts of Sunday services in there to give you a flavour of the place.

^^ I second the above, and CORE from what I have heard of them. It depends where you are situationed really.

If you are near the city centre I'd recommend St. Marks, and if you are near Clondalkin, I'd recommend New Life Community Church.

    Speaking of errors..
It does matter what church we go to, the Catholic church is the ark of salvation, that teaches sound doctrine,

..says the Catholic church. Which makes the argument self-servingly circular. Hmmn..

but the protestant churches teach different doctrines therefore both cannot be sound doctrine there is only one truth thus it does matter what church we go to, again the choice is aislings whom I love dearly but I remained where I am and I'm seriously glad I did.

Whereas the Protestant position doesn't preclude someone of the Catholic persuasion being one of the saved - rendering it irrelevant which church you go to.

For the undecided, it really down to which doctrine sounds more like doctrine eminating from a God of grace. Which one sounds the more open armed. Which 'smells' better.

As in so many things; when not sure of what the evidence proves, one needs to ask "where does the evidence point."

Guys, I appreciate that an interesting discussion could develop from certain issues raised in this thread. However, this thread is here for the purposes of recommending Christian prayer groups in Dublin.

Now begin holding hands in ecumenical love or else...

For the OP. If you're interested there is a young Catholic group called Youth 2000 who have prayer groups all over the country. Its a great way of meeting like minded people. The link below should give you the times and locations of all the meetings in Dublin and throughout Leinster
