Underwhelmed by 1887 Shotgun

I've just unlocked the 1887 shotgun. I had been anticipating unlocking this weapon for some time, as was fed up getting blown away by hostiles using 1887's akimbo.

I'm actually quite underwhelmed by them so far, albeit, only used them for a hour or so MP. I had been using M1014 extensively and got used to the good firerate and racked up alot of kills, effectively using it as a primary weapon.

Are there specific techniques that should be employed when using 1887's akimbo? I have noticed some people shooting each gun in sequence, rather than at same time?

I read of people complaining previously that the weapon so excessively powerful and not like real life. Was there a patch or something since?

    Cheers.

1887's were patched in the last update there range and power were toned down I prestiged so haven't had them since the update :(

Yeah before the update the range on em was mental it was like a rifle you could pick people off at close to mid range handy out. I have the thinking that its best to fire both at the same time when your akimbo.

Hate losing em when I prestige, wish you pick one gun for the higher level guns to hold on to each time you start over.

If you want to make them as overpowered as before use bling pro and choose FMJ alongside Akimbo. This works and if anything they have more range than before the patch. i miss taking out the entire team with them in S&D lol

I don't have them unlocked yet, but I always steal them off dead bodies. The power on them doesn't seem to be toned down at all, however the range is definitely reduced.

the trick is to fire one first and the other one after..
that way you're getting consistent fire and not caugh flatbooted..
I've often came up against guys who fired both barrels at me and missed :D
their @ss is mine then :D

They've definately been nerfed somewhat by the patch, judging alone by the significantly reduced amount of people using them.

However they can still pull off the odd 20+ feet off center bull**** kill as I witnessed in my last game:mad:

    So glad they were patched!:D

the m1014 with grip and fmj is easily the best shotgun in the game.

FMJ only affects penetration not damage.

when you are putting it on it shows an increase to the damage bar...

Yep and just like in previous games, those graphs don't actually correspond to anything.
Have a look here. Great site for seeing what the weapons, attachments and perks actually do.
FMJ behaves like the deep impact perk in CoD4 did. That's why it's a requirement to get 40 penetration kills with it attached.

Just try it to you see, it improves the range on them even though it shouldnt

    Yep, you're right.

    From CoD wiki:
One of the fixes of Patch 1.07 was to severely reduce the range of Akimbo 1887s, as players complained that having the Akimbo attachment on, coupled with the fact the gun could one hit kill at far greater ranges than any other shotgun made getting kills with it far too easy. When used without Akimbo its range is still the same as it was before the 1.07 patch. When used with Akimbo the range is about the same as that of the Ranger (shotgun). However, Bling 1887 with FMJ and Akimbo makes them behave exactly as they did pre-patch.
I don't have them unlocked and wouldn't be too interested in glitch exploiting when I do though.

At least people have to use one of their perks to get that bonus rather than having it automatically. Plus if you have to find this info on Wiki style site, huge chunks of players won't hear about it.
