Reinstalling OS

I have a Dell Laptop thats about 4 years old and running very slowly. I want to give it to my folks and am considering wiping the hard drive and reinstalling XP to make it go a bit quicker. It was reinstalled once already, by Dell, when they replaced the motherboard or something. What do I need to do the reinstall and how difficult is it? Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks

This guide will show you what you will see as you go through the installation.

Before you do, this will only install the operating system. If you have installed extra packages, like Microsoft Office etc, then you will also need the discs and licence keys for those.

To reinstall, you'll need your Dell XP disk, another disk / flash drive with drivers on it (at least for the network cards) and have made a backup of any data you want to keep.

I presume you mean the Microsoft Disc marked 'Drivers'. I have all the discs. I presume my computer can boot from the CD.

That should be the one. When you see the dell logo on start up, tap the F12 key. It will bring you to a menu where you can select what you want to boot from first as a one time change. You can also do this in the bios, but probably easier with F12.
