Deleted Safari

I restarted my macbook pro as I was troubleshooting with a problem I was having with my iPod and I have mistakenly deleted Safari and cannot access the net on my MBP.

When I turnrd back on my MBP after restarting it Safari was not on my dock for some weird reason. After I then moved it to the desktop I moved it to the dock but it copied it so I put the one on the desktop in the trash. Then when I clicked on the Safari icon in the dock it would not open as it said it was in the trash. I think I then put that one in the trash aswell to start again and I emptied the trash.

Looks like I've deleted Safari. One problem after another. I hate computers. What can I do now? Please help. I'm writing from a desktop now and I need to get back to my original problem

    Download it here:

    http://www.apple.com/safari/

Could you maybe email it to your MBP?

Btw - the icons on the Dock are like shortcuts, they just contain a link to the app, not the app itself. So when you moved Safari to the trash the Safari icon on the Dock had nothing to open. Best to keep your apps in the Applications folder.

I don't have mail set up on my MBP. I only use web based mail (hotmail etc.) and didn't bother setting up my e-mail via the application :(

Also the second icon I moved was Safari from the applications folder. Help!

Do you have a USB key? Or burn a CD?

Alternatively insert the Install/OS X disc and open the Optional Installs pkg. Tick Safari and install.

Another easy option is to get firefox via FTP:

    open finder.
    press command+K
paste/type this address into the Server Address box:
    ftp://mozilla.isc.org//pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.5.6/mac/en-GB

    click connect

    username: anonymous
    password: leave it blank

dmg file for firefox should come up in a finder window

Drag and drop firefox to your local machine (on to your desktop would be fine).

    install firefox from teh DMG

download and install safari through firefox.

    woop!

Would safari come up as an option in software update automatically after being deleted or is it even a part of software update anymore?

It is part of Software Update. But it's unlikely to show up if deleted.

    Cheers folks
Alternatively insert the Install/OS X disc and open the Optional Installs pkg. Tick Safari and install.

I called Applecare and that's exactly what I did. I installed the wrong applications cd first by mistake before the Install/OS X cd. Then I realised it was an ancient version of Safari. Downloaded an update that woudn't work/install properly. Downloaded again and bingo, here I am :D
I don't know how it dissapeared from the dock in the first place and was very suprised you could delete the entire programme so easily but anyway I'm sorted.

UPS picking up iPod - unknown problem
