Hi my Dell Inspiron 1720 is running Vista Home Premium 32 bit .Im having a problem with an automatic update that installed itself last week. The update tries to configure at stage 3 of 3 @ 0 % complete and keeps shutting down . .I am unable to log in . .I tried log in under safe mode and using last known good configuration, system restore and using the repair option on the OS disc but no joy any ideas its driving me mad . . .?

hi, i've got exactly the same model & had the exact same issue last wk when I blamed the wife or son for shutting down the laptop & taking out the power cable in the middle of updating, couldnt do anythin with it at all, my brother suggested that new place opposite ramada hotel 'bray computer center' wife took it in & they fixed it fairly cheaply too.... not sure exactly how but it's working now.... :):):):)
hope that helps you & anyone else with the same problem
    Jasper
