    Need a little help/advice

    I suffer from cold sores, at the moment I'm paranoid as I've had 4 in the space of 6 weeks (I think its the cold weather), any tingle or pain I feel on my lips, I'm applying Aciclovir (generic Sainsburys or Tesco brand) cream, its even waking me up through the night!

    Can anybody suggest a lip balm/cream they use that is good to your lips, in particular keeping them from being dry and cracking.

    I use vasoline, but am sick of it at this stage, its doing no good.

    use the elizabeth arden 8 hr cream, i find its great on cold sores, it dries them up and shrinks them. plus it odesnt dry the rest of your lips like aciclovir does.

    it smells a bit, and its dear but its worth it, imo. (plus the tube will last you ages)

    You've just reminded me that I have a small sample of that! Cheers Sam!

    Keep away from Vaseline, it only makes your lips worse! I swear by Carmex these days, think I'm getting addicted, it's great stuff.

    I suffer really bad from coldsores.I find when i do have a out break the best thing for it is bio-propolis, you can get it in any health shop and it really heals them upfast! In between them i use carmex and find it great!

    +1 on the Carmex. Zovirax for cold sores.

    I use Blistex on my coldsores and I find it fab.

    I use it all year round and if I'm wearing lipgloss, I put a little Blistex on before the gloss and sometimes I use a little bit of Elizabeth Arder lip protectant (it looks like a lipstick, but it goes on a clear color).

    This stuff;

    Might be behind the counter at your local pharmacy. Super stuff.

    Also maybe invest in some Lysine from pharmacy or health food store, very good for fighting cold sores. You probably need to take a multivitamin too, something with vit C, zinc and the B vits. A lot of cold sores over a short space of time normally indicates your system could be run down.

    Yup, so true. Vaseline, or basically petroleum jelly will only protect your lips as a barrier cream in harsh weather conditions, it will not moisturise or repair cracked lips in any way and will only serve to dry them out even more in the long run.

    I've always gotten extremely chapped and sometimes bleeding lips and a few products which have worked for me are: Vichy Aqualia Thermal Lip Therapy, ROC Enydrial Lip Balm, Avene Cold Cream Lip Treatment (the best but unfortunately, hard to find) and Lacura lip balm if you want something more natural. All of these cost under a tenner

    Previously I would never have left the house without Vaseline but I gave up on that and replaced it with Carmex and now I swear by it! Cheap and cheerful and sorts out cracked lips in a jiffy!
