    Hi all,

Easy question, are there any clubs in galway city where I can go down and meet/talk to people. I really want to get into airsoft but I want to talk to people about guns and equipment (manufacturer pro's/con's) before I rush into parting with the money.

    Cheers,

    Fireborn

Well best bet is to head down to GTAC2 in Ballybrit and there will be many of us there... What bit of Galway you based in? I can possibly point you toward your local airsofter.

You're on Boards mate, ask away, most people are willing to help you.

I'm up in Boher na Choiste on the Headford road I can see North Point and the bally brit roundabout from my apartment lol. I went down to Corrib tackle in the liosban estate today and he said G-TAC had died....

Obviously not lol. Thats savage though, are there any particular nights/days to come down for a chat?

    Cheers

    ^^ +1 Ger

Ask around mate, most of us are nice people and we dont bite...

though I find that to really get a feel for what gun you want you must hold it :P

Hence why I suggested visiting GTAC2

*** WTF the dude in Corrib must be a fricken idiot! GTAC is alive and well!

Sundays are normally a good day, I normally make my (unfortunately rare) appearances on Sundays, as do the lads. The lads are trying to get organized to try arrange a big game soon enough... Must be the millionth time we tried to organize one LOL

How big is the average game up there? and is the ourdoor site in portumna still going?

I'm after an M4 (Not exotic I know, but neither am I lol), I'm looking for info on good manufacturers I know I need a titanium gearboxed one, but I was wondering if there are specific manufacturers that stand out for chassis quality or 'modability'. Also things like webbing, vest etc, just after the advice of people who know these things, as opposed to stumbling in the dark like.

Get a Dboys M4, rock solid and won't let you down.
I didn't know you could get a titanium gearbox...

Yeah well that was another gem of info from the Corrib tackle guy. Hmmmm.

I think I defo need to talk to someone who knows what they're on about.

Do you have a personally preferred shop to buy equipment?

for webbing/vests, pantac do brilliant quality gear, its a bit pricey but its well worth it imo

EDIT: pantac are a brand, but many places stock their stuff

Eirsoft, Southeast Airsoft, Hobby Airsoft, Airsoft Eire, hell even MIA(yes I'm saying something good about them)
All those shops have a great range and all but one have brilliant customer service.

I got my first AEG from Eirsoft many moons ago, I have bought from nearly every other retailer as well since, The advise and after sales you will get from the guys in eirsoft is second to none

Head to gtac buddy they sell guns and gear there as well as running the site, very friendly folk running the place and the regulars are sound, airsofts great craic

Visit Eirsoft at www.eirsoft.ie or the Eirsoft in GTAC2. Avoid Corrib Tackle like the PLAGUE.

The guy in there is clearly an idiot...

Cool, cheers for all the help guys, im in a much better mood now I know airsoft is alive and well in galway. (Came home from corrib wondering if a 2 hour drive to limerick/dublin etc is something want to do everytime I want go airsofting)

I think the dude in corrib is more fisherman, than rifleman.

Would a 'forearm grip' be worth while on the M4 (I figure it might be a lot more useful for CQB)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 452 ✭✭Phractal

The foregrip is always useful but its a matter of preferance. SOme like it, some dont. Depends really.

I was talking to a bouncer on the door of the Pi night club one night and he said him and another few lads were gonna get an airsoft team together.....that was about 2 years ago so....well..........(slowly fades into background)

    Here's a choice for you: http://www.seairsoft.net/product_details.php?id=417&sub=4&subcat=Assault
That M4 would be well suited in CQB.:)

That looks cool. would the silencer be removable?

Also, onto the more serious side of the sport. I have a few questions about regulations etc.

Are all guns sold by Irish stockists within regulations? i.e i dont have to check the label of every gun I look at.

How would I carry my rifle? I dont have a car (sister wrote it off, long story lol) Would in its bag then in a large hiking backpack be acceptable for for the walk to ballybrit? Or is there another acceptable way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,463 ✭✭✭Leftyflip

Every single airsoft device sold in this country is under the 1 joule regulation, if you get an airsoft device from an Irish retailer and it is over, bring it back and have it downgraded.

I'm not 100% sure but as far as i know yes,but it wouldn't look as good without the silencer imo.

Ehh,you can get a gun bag in one of the retailers ( i know SE airsoft sells them) or you can carry it in a large hiking bag depending on its size and the aeg's size.

As long as it is not visible you should be fine. I use a kit bag to keep mine in when I go to GTAC2, it also holds my other gear, mags, pistols, mask, bbs etc. Just make sure it is long enough to fit your rifle in :D

Awesome. I'm really stoked to get into this now. Roll on payday :)

A thought occured to me though, as i was drooling over AEG's on the Eirsoft site, Is an M4 the right weapon for a beginner? does it matter?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,641 ✭✭✭zero19

Doesnt really matter, best advice i can give you is go to eirsoft and hold a few different guns to see what you like best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 169 ✭✭Fireborn

Fair enough, that i'll do. Will mosey down on saturday (assuming a 3rd ice age hasnt completely overtaken us by then) :)

    Thanks for the advice everyone!

It's not an ice-age or a big freeze its just winter...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 816 ✭✭✭gungun

but isnt this the coldest one for a long time?
anyway, best of luck with your airsofting:)

A guitar bag works PERFECT as a rifle bag.

Best of luck mate, we may well meet on the field of battle :)

    Ger: You coming GTAC anytime?

Mis-information. That is why the serious airsofter tends to stay away from that particular retailer. Isnt it great. I can assure you that G-TAC or G-TAC2 has not died but are alive and well. True we have not been around the past few days and that was due to a family berevement. We are reopening tomorrow (G-TAC2 & Eirsoft Galway) and if you would like to call up and have a tour pf the site and check put the shop please feel free to do so. You can also contact us on the booking line number on our signature below.

Best regards and Happy New Year,
Martin, Evelyn and the G-TAC Team.

Due to the poor weather befor Christmas and currently, G-TAC has not been opened. We are looking at doing a big revamp for G-TAC early in the New Year but we are waiting for a break in the weather to get this done.

    Regards,
    Martin.

I'm sorry to hear of your bereavment, I'm sure no-one holds the store being closed against you.

I kinda got the impression the dude was more into the tackle side of things, he kept relating his information back to fishing. regarding product quality etc. quoted me 500 - 600 euro for a good AEG.

I feel like im a kid again, all excited over new things. I'll wander over for a chat tomorrow.
