Sorry, this has probably been answered many times. My Dad has to travel to England next Tuesday. He has an American passport. Will this be acceptable? Do you need a passport for travelling to England or will other ID like a drivers licence be sufficiant? Could one get an Irish Passport at such short notice?

Passport should be fine - if he's flying Ryanair, he'll certainly need his passport as it's the only form of ID they accept.

Aer Lingus etc will accept drivers licences etc as ID for flights to the UK.

He won't need his passport to enter the UK.. but if he's flying he'll need it for sure.

Legally speaking, he will need a passport to cross the border. You are only exempt from the passport requirement if you hold an Irish or UK citizenship.

True... but it won't get looked as as he will enter thru' domestic arrival.

Will his American passport be fine or will he need an Irish one?
