Finding a Serial Number on Garmin Nuvi 265w

    Hi I'm trying to update my maps and in order to do so I need to register my Sat Nav. To do this I need the product's serial number. I took off the sticker with the serial number when I got the Sat Nav as I did not realise it's importance. Is there any other way I can get the serial number?? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've tried emailing Garmin countless times but have got no response and have rung them in the UK only to be put on hold for 20 mins.

    On my 760 it's printed on a barely visible sticker above the connector on the bottom of the case in tiny, tiny letters. There's usually a small white sticker on the box as well.

    Enter it as a 205w and use the number on the sticker. That worked for me.

    Download and install Garmin Communicator Plugin (this allows your unit to work with other Garmin software).

    Connect your Garmin to your PC, using a mini usb cable. Switch on the Garmin and allow it a 30 seconds to be recognised by your PC.

    Go to myGarmin - myDashboard screen - and viola!

    You can also register from the myDashboard screen.

    :)

    It'll only show the serial number though if you've actually entered it yourself during the registration process (note: serial number <> unit ID). It would appear that the OP hasn't actually registered it yet, and can't find the serial number in order to do so.

    Nope - that's not correct.
    It will show you the serial number, registered or not.

    Edit: :confused::D

    Yeah, sorry, just noticed that and deleted my post, but you got in there before me ... it's a bit strange though, as I'm sure it never used to do that in the past.

    EDIT: I'm guessing that Garmin have an internal database mapping unit ID's to serial numbers seeing as the serial number is mentioned nowhere in the About.. or diagnostics screen of any of the 5 Garmin GPS's I have here. What makes it stranger is that they require you to enter the serial number initially if you go the manual route, but then require you to install the Garmin Communicator anyway later in the process when they could then determine it based on the unit ID.

    Not sure how long it's been like that, I first noticed it about 3 months ago when I bought a Nuvi 600.

    Also, registered another Nuvi 600 today, and I have 60 days from today to get a free map update. It used to be 60 days from first-fix, but this must have changed recently as well, as my first-fix would be at least 30 days ago.
