Website bans fat/ugly people

Dating and social network site BeautifulPeople.com has axed some 5,000 members following complaints that they had gained weight.

The members were singled out after posting pictures of themselves that reportedly showed they had put on pounds over the holiday period.

The site allows entry to new members only if existing members vote them as sufficiently attractive to warrant it.

The US, the UK, and Canada topped the list of excluded members.

The site has always been unrepentant about its selection process, calling itself "the largest network of attractive people in the world".

The move was reportedly prompted by members themselves, who police the membership of the site to maintain a high - if highly subjective - standard of attractiveness.

"As a business, we mourn the loss of any member, but the fact remains that our members demand the high standard of beauty be upheld," said site founder Robert Hintze.

"Letting fatties roam the site is a direct threat to our business model and the very concept for which BeautifulPeople.com was founded.

This particular article specifically talks about how 5000 members where banned after deemed to put on to much weight over the Holidays.

However this site has been in the news before. To become a member you have to submit a photo of yourself – then the current members deem if you are good looking enough to join. The figures speak for themselves with only 1/8 males getting accepted and 3/20 females.

I want peoples’ opinions on this site.

I personally think it is brilliant – of course I mean this from a Marketing perspective.

I mean is it wrong to create a website that only beautiful people can join? I don’t think so!

I’m sure weight watchers wouldn’t let a skinny person join!

What's funny is that they've banned the people most likely and capable of hacking into the website and fucking it up. 'Beautiful people' they might be, stupid fucking retards they certainly are.;)

I think you'll find its underweight people that aren't eligible to join - there's skinny and then there's malnourished.

It may be a cliche, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally I think Dawn French (along with some other women than might not be considered beautiful in the traditional sense) is far more attractive than the model that's on the sites home page. The site won't let me browse as a guest but I bet the members are some of the most boring, obnoxious people you could encounter. And if they're so attractive why do they need to sign up for a dating site?

They could make fake profiles using random stock photos of attractive women to make it look like the site isn't a huge sausagefest.
Not saying they do but IIRC it's happened before with some dating sites.
