Please move this if it is not allowed in Galway forum but i want to buy locally so...

I have been looking around pc world, currys, all major retailers etc but don't know what to go for. Just basic laptop around 350-400 bucks, just d'internet and pictures and stuff (no netbook though).

Anyone have any good tips on actual model / shop that maybe you or a friend have bought that was a good deal. Would prefer if anyone had actual model and where to buy them.

I will / can do research myself but I just don't have the energy right now maybe someone who knows about komputors has a quick answer?

    Thanks

Call into Lapteck beside mcswiggians. The lads in there are sound and im sure they will help you out. I bought a good spec laptop for 400e for a friend.

Currys has lots as has PC World. For a bargain, keep checking in Bargain Alerts. Aldi & Lidl sells them every so often too.
http://www.currys.ie/ has a Advent Laptop Large 3GB memory and Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium. Features a 320GB hard drive, HDMi connectivity and is wireless enabled. Model: ROMA 2000
    Was €499.99 Now €379

Tesco have a laptap for sale at the moment. I think it is a HP brand, small notebook. If that helps

Unfortunately the processor ain't too hot.
the dell outlet store is opening again tomorrow. Might be worth keeping an eye on. It's been mysteriously closed the past few days.

Thanks for the advice so far to all. FYI my girlfriend went in to PC Worst today and she made the following observations
    - Service was still on holiday break
    - The have a trade-in scheme going where you can get "up to €110 for your old laptop", she asked about it and the girl who "helped" said "-You will probably only get like 10 euro for it anyway" (before she said anything about her laptop)
    - An "expert" then took over and said no no you will get more like 50 euro but then it will have to be a fairly new laptop with really good spec (So why am I in here?)
    - Impossible to distinguish between customers & staff (I thought this was quite funny)

It is partially because of things like this I am asking for advice

I think both sites are priced in sterling but it might be worthwhile looking online.
I can't find any local bargains that are really bettering or equaling the net as yet.

Well, whatever you get - a few months down the line there will be something cheaper and better available.

    1. Know what you want.
    2. Read the reviews.
    3. Find the shops.
    4. Buy it online :D

Indeed. Unless your buying a Mac (generally fixed prices) then you're waaaay better off online.

I am not trying to make any sweeping statements about PC World employees, but the ones I have encountered, either didn't have the requisite knowledge to do their job or were being deliberately misleading.

seriously, i think you are better offline as others have said.

    Recommending www.komplett.ie

I've used them before for a couple of things (never a laptop though, but i wouldnt hesitate). Never a problem.

+1 on Lapteck. Doubt they can be beaten on aftercare and dead on to go with it.

Lapteck is great. My friend bought one in there and they guy who runs the place is beyond a gentleman. My friend enquired about extra RAM and he just winked and said, "Don't worry about it, I'll give you double the RAM for €xx" - let's just say it was a great price for that amount of memory. He was very honest and didn't try to rip my friend off. Instead of selling him a laptop that had more than he needed, he diverted him onto a cheaper one. That's good salesmanship!

I bought a fantastic laptop off of Komplett.ie, so if you want to go online, Komplett is the place to go!
