    Hello,

I bought an automatic pellet gun from dealextreme, and revenue have seized it for being imported outside the EU, I was wondering if there could be any trouble with it being an airsoft gun? It's not very real looking, and knowing dealextreme it's bad plastic quality,

They listed that it's an airsoft gun on the revenue sheet, looking for VAT. could the fact it's an airsoft gun be a problem also?

    cheers,

    Kevin.

right - it is a pellet gun or an airsoft gun first and foremost?

these are two very different things - pellet guns are actually FIREARMS, hence there's not a hope in hell that you'll get one in through customs.

assuming then that this is actually an airsoft gun you've attempted to import, then as of the 1st of January, this may prove equally fruitless. "The Ban" on personal imports of airsoft devices was due to come into effect on the 1st of this year - as such, you can only obtain airsoft devices through retailers and can only imports airsoft devices as a licensed retailer.

..so - you may be in a spot of bother, although it could also just be that Duty and VAT are required as it was purchased from outside the EU.

i dunno if you could class it as an RIF though:

    that sort of job yeah?

Id say theyre only after the VAT if theyre stating that it was imported from o/s the EU & not o/s Ireland.

Not really on the airsoft "scene" so to speak, so I wouldn't know where to get my value for money, do you need a licence for an airsoft gun?

Any of these folks will hook you up either in person or online, and are dead reputable. You do not need a licence - the power output is set to within legal limits in Ireland for toys.

Am I realistically looking at 100€+ for a pistol?

I'm sure there would be some shops just selling them? With the amount of kids running about these days with real pellet guns, it mustnt be that hard to get hold of them

'kids' running around with 'pellet' guns .... *sigh*

Airsoft are not toys... they are high end sporting equiptment designed for airsoft gaming, and target shooting and more recently film, only.... any other use, is misuse...

the term 'pellet' here just makes me think of the fecking 'slingbacker' and 'metah pelleeth' crap....

If you want to learn about airsoft, read this forum. check the retailer section to find out where the dedicated airsoft shops are.

These are not toys, and cannot be treated as toys. Realistic Imitation firearms can get you bloodywell shot by the gardai... (thiers are real)

Most guns in films are airsoft guns as they're cheaper and easier to get hold of. Not to mention they don't need to get licenses for the guns and they don't need secure gun storage and other stuff like that.

You can actually see the winding wheel on the hi-caps in loads of films.

Last Action Hero - You can clearly see the gas valve in the bottom of the bad guy's revolver. Trés amusing:D
