    Murder mystery weekend

    (:pac:)

  • I took my class to London on Ryanair 1c flights about 3 years ago. Just came home one day, Ryanair sale was on, looked up the class list and after about 4 hours of inputting everyone's names, and doing some working out (3 different flights and 2 different airports), I managed to book the entire class over to London (and back!) for less than the price of a bus ticket to the airport.

London was good when we got there, bit expensive though (when compared to other English places). Hostel we stayed in was St. Christopher's Grenwich, which had a South African manager called Dustin who was an absolute hero. There was a bar attached to the hostel, and they had a lock in with just our class for one of the nights.

We then went to Newcastle the following year (thank you again Ryanair!), and I can honestly say it was the best student orientated city I've ever been to. We were in 2/3 different clubs a night, booze was dirt cheap. They have bars called "Trebs" Bars, which are essentially where you go to pre-drink, Treble Spirit and a dash was £2.80. We went when €1~£1 so it was incredible. We all went to a Newcastle Football match and there was serious craic at that, even if the cheapo student seats were crap!

We did a few other trips, down to Carlow, Kilkenny and also up surfing in Bundoran which was right craic too. Huge influx of "foreigners" into a small place like Bundoran means you're overnight celebrities.

Feel free to ask any questions about any of the trips. My two most recommended we took would be Newcastle and Bundoran.

newcastle sounds really good. so it was good value for money? coz i was looking at like a murder mystery weekend and it was nearly €200 each.
so the night life and stuff was good then? how long did you guys go for? i was thinking the weekend.

  • best nights in Newcastle were midweek. We flew in on Tuesday and out on Friday morning real early. Ryanair flights were less than €25 each. Stayed in the Albatross Hostel which was excellent. That was less than €20 a night each. Nights out were so cheap, as was eating. Most places in the city have 2for1 offers if you eat at the right time. We all joined the casino for free too, they had £1 fry breakfasts for members. Was a great call.

Everyone in Newcastle seemed to be students, we met loads of people coming down from Scotland to party on their week off, and a few from Northern Ireland too.

Think I spent ~ €160 on 3 nights, flights and all the entertainment too. Was definitely worth it!
