TEFL/CELTA

    Hi folks,

I just completed a BA in Spanish and Economics and am looking to do a TEFL/CELTA course with a view to teaching in Spain and/or Latin America for a few months (or possibly years!).

Only problem is there are millions of different courses to choose from and they all seem to just promote themselves. Is CELTA better than TEFL?

    http://www.ihdublin.com/ihdublin/Main/CELTA.htm

The international house claims to be the most recognised course because it is approved by ACELS, but does this necessarily mean better job prospects?

I have also considered doing the Cambridge CELTA course in Barcelona, has anyone done this?

    Any feedback much appreciated!

    Thanks!

HI Consigliere, please take a look at this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055273849 - you will find answers to most of your questions there

If you do decide to do CELTA, it's certainly worth looking into doing it abroad as prices will differ - for example, it's about 200 Euro cheaper in Spain and about 250 euro cheaper in Poland, if memory serves.

As for whether or not CELTA guarantees better job prospects than other TEFL certificates - opinions differ. Personally, I'd say it gives you better chances but you'll hear some people here saying it doesnt really matter what cert you've got as long as it has the required number of hours. Try taking a look at job ads for TEFL in your preferred locations and see what the employers are looking for there.
