I am going to avail of the new scrappage scheme this year and I want to buy a 7 seater.

The new Peugeot 5008 looks to have promise.

Recommendations for 7 seaters that qualify would be appreciated.

Is it for carrying a couple of adults and small kids?

Depending on what sort of passengers you'll be carrying it will determine what you buy.

We currently have an 05 Grand Scenic that we love, but the rear most seats are only for kids, you wouldnt get adults into them. It's just been replace with a new model too. Same goes for each manufacturers MPV in that size ( Zafira, C4 Picasso, C-Max (or S-max, whichever one is the 7 seater) etc). If you'll have it full of adults at any stage you'd need a full size MPV like an Espace, Galaxy etc.

You've the option of some estates too, but I dont know off hand which are available with 7 seats. Volvo we're always good for that though.

I agree with Stekelly.. except the Smax and Galaxy are the same car.. with the same seats.

We have a c4 Grand Picasso which is great.. but the rear most seats are best for kids or short journeys... that said the kids love them and rush to get in the car!.. you can still get a folded buggy behind the 3rd row too!

Be aware that some of these cars have no spare wheel!

I think the 5008 and C4 are the same car.. I note in the UK you can get a Berlingo with 7 seats too.

I borrowed a C8 once, not pretty but very useful.

It will be for the kids really.

Had a brief look on the Nissan website but I can't see the CO2 figures for the new Quashqi +2 so I don't know whether that would be a runner or not.

The C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi qualifies in automatic, but not in manual.

    Renault Grand Scenic 1.5dCi

    Fiat Doblo 1.3 MultiJet

They're the only 3 available 7 seaters qualifying for scrappage

    Qashqai+2 is 149g/km...non-runner.

As I understand it the scrappage scheme is only available if you buy a car that is Category B or better therefore Galaxys Grand Scenic's etc are out.

I'm open to correction on this!

    99er,

Are you referring to the new Qashqai 2010 model? Pity!!

I think the peugeot 5008 will also make it in(to be available sometime in 2010 not sure exactly when)

    Thanks for info.

That may well be so, but I'd wager you'd match the 'scrappage' offer on one of these, with a bit of negotiation.

Looks like Gormley is discriminating against families with more than 3 kids.

I was intending to go in to the dealers and haggle for a straight cash deal with no trade in and get their best cash price. When I had that then I think it would be an opportune time to introduce them to my 11 year old............car:P!!

If it's only for the kids, then how about the Opel Zafira? It aint sexy but it's probably the best value for money and the more recent models are very good quality.
Here's a review from What Car.

What car also recommends the Citroen Grand C4 Picasso

i am with the zafira on this.... have one now a couple of years a 00 reg.. and its great, its only the 1.6 petrol, it won't win any drag races, but not what you want in a MPV for kids... if you do then look at the zafira OPC :)

good car, reliable, seat configuration and use is easy, not too big, wife loves that...

    Not so sure

    http://www.netcarshow.com/nissan/2010-qashqai/
One of the most significant changes to the Nissan Qashqai range is the addition of a new Pure Drive variant. Wearing the badge reserved only for the Nissan models with the most environmentally efficient economy and emissions, this special Nissan Qashqai produces only 129g/km of CO2.

If they can get the standard on down to 129, surely they can get the +2 down below 140 IMO

I think that the +2 is at 149 presently. It would take a reduction of 10 to get it to Cat B. Big Ask I'd say.

But Citroen did it with the C4 Grand Picasso... from 150 (20089MY) to 140 (2009MY)... I know as mine is sadly at 150! Road tax is €330 not €156.

Also some 7 seaters cannot takew 3 kiddies seat in middle row.. eg Zafira.
Picasso can.. so can Scenic I think.. Very useful is you need 2 kiddie seats in row 2 (middle and side) an want to be able to tip other door side seat to get into row 3.

You don't need to burden the dealer with your 11 year old car. I stand to be corrected on this one but the car does not need to be scrapped through the dealer. It just needs to be scrapped between January 1st 2010 and December 31st 2010, and within 60 days of the registration of the new car (before or after).

I've just emailed Nissan to find out about the CO2.

3 kiddie seats in the middle row would be a must for me. Tks for heads up.

Who gives you the €1500 euro?? I assumed that the dealer gave you the car at the price nett of the €1500.

Without checking ninetyniner's figures these are the only cars that qualify for the scrappage:

The C4 Picasso 1.6 HDi qualifies in automatic, but not in manual.

    Renault Grand Scenic 1.5dCi

    Fiat Doblo 1.3 MultiJet

I've had a couple of the new model Zafira as single day and extended hire cars and both myself and the missus hated them. Everything was horribly square and things just seemed much more awkward to use, having come straight from the Scenic.

I really like the look of the new C4 picasso personnally, plus the fact that it's an auto would havee the decision made for me.

With regard seating arrangmemnt, we recently went on a drivign trip round England with 4 full sized adults , a 12 year old and a 5 year old, plus luggage and had no issues space wise. We did put the 2 kids in the rearmost seats though. What I did and regualrly do though when we are carryign anythign up to 6 people is to take out the middle seat in the 2nd row and use the gap as access to the back row for the kids. Leaves anyone in the middle row with loads of shoulder room too.

We have had 3 child seats in the middle row too but usually revert to useing the back row . The kids prefer it to for some reason. n
The new model Scenic would be a close 2nd because I really like our current one and the one we had before , plus the interior is styled like the new Laguna, which I really like too.
Havnt had any experience with the Fiat personally.

Yes, but all you have to give them is the end of life certificate or whatever you get from the scrap yard.

I had a Doblo 1.9 multijet 5 seater as a hire car recently on holidays. It was cheap but not particularly cheerful.
It had plenty of luggage space but I expect this would suffer greatly in 7 seater form. I doubt it would have the flexibility of removing the middle seat in the middle row, like the Picasso or Scenic.
The 1.9 engine was not particularly eager, I shudder to think what the 1.3 would be like pulling that body with a few passengers on board.
If you ever plan on doing any long journeys with a full load of passengers, you really don't want to be doing it in one of these.
In it's favour, my 1 year old son loved it for some strange reason and didn't want to get out of it on a few occasions.

Think of it as being like riding a moped or a fat chick, but without the fun, just embarrasing to be seen with.

I assume that the scrapyards wil charge you for the car disposal so I think I'd leave it for the dealer.

Apparently not. My cousin heard an ad for Hammond Lane yesterday, apparently they will pick up cars for free. The scrappers that have agreements with the importers will take end of life vehicles for free. I doubt most of them will collect for free though, I know the one in Ballyfermot wont, I've a non running van I've stripped for parts I'm looking to get rid of.

Has anybody looked into the Zafira scrappage deal?

    1.7 CDTi Eco-flex

In a scrappage deal it works out at 22,700 Euro for a non-metallic colour.

150 Euro Annual Road Tax and 50 mpg in a new 7-seater!

I don't give a ****e if it takes 13 seconds to go from 0-60 (in a review), with those kind of economy figures it's surely worth considering ....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 431 ✭✭Manuel

    1. Anyone got any experience of this Zafira Eco-flex, or any recent 1.7 Diesel Zafira? Good, bad, indifferent?

    2. Anyone have any knowledge or opinion on whether Opel will extend their scrappage deadline past 31st March? The radio ad campaign alone must be costing a fortune!

    3. Anyone know other Class B 7-seaters that qualify for scrappage now?

    Thanks!
