Best go for fitting first. Replacing the shafts alone will make it financially unfeasible to buy clubs then fit. Most custom fitters use their own suppliers with whom you may not be familiar (best is the japense head maker KZG).

Basically all you are looking for is shaft type/length/stiffness, lie angle, and grip type/size/layers of tape.

Any pro/range with some decent equipment can do this for you. You then just plug that info into the relevant areas on the online form and the clubs will be factory built to your specs.

I'm presuming you have a club type in mind?

.ive already got cobra ssi and want to upgrade to the S2 cobras..basically what i want is to go to a pro that will tell me the specs i need but wasnt sure whether some places would do it when im buyin the clubs elsewhere.

You'll be charged for the analysis/fitting, probably 50 to 70 euro (normally offset against the purchase though not in your case)

You can get a fiarly accurate idea by using the ping web fit service on the ping web site (get someone else to measure you while doing this, more accurate). The main thing it can't measure accurately is swing speed so that you can order the right shaft.(though it does try based on length of hit not great imo). Unfortunately this is probably the most important measure, you also have the problem of different companies putting out different interpretations of 'stiff' 'regular' etc. A tip, most men think they should have stiff shafts, while very few swing the club hard enough (90-100mph) to play stiff shafts all the way up to a 3 iron. Maybe you should go to a pro fitter and barter based on the web price. Hope this helps. P.S. I have had custom clubs fitted and made, and the difference between them and poorly fitted clubs (what I was using befire) is huge.

I went down to the KZG dealer shop in south Dublin last year and got custom fitted. The pro basically told me that the clubs i had were too heavy and too long (standard in any shop) for my height and build. The shaft wasn't was ideal for my flight.

6 months later, i was averaging around 83-88 per round. Previously i couldnt break 90. The shaft were suited to my swing ,therfore i was having more belief in my swing and the clubs produced a good flight and distance!

    Never look back.

    Custom fit is a must.

.. use the vector pro launch monitor to get your specification ..fit on ball flight which is a must...you cant fit someone if you cant see the flight of the ball. static fit and web fit gives you an idea but dynamic fitting is the only way to fit someone properly.

KZG club are rubbish unless you can't afford a brand name. is it you or your clubs, get a lesson with your custom fit and do it properly. only the golf company have the right equipment to custom fit your clubs once you are fitted. you could try bobby kinsella in skierries golf club.

I think you'll actually find that KZG clubs are more expensive than most brands bar premium models. I know a few decent players who use them, including one of my mates who won the East of Ireland with them.

They are far from cheap and rubbish!

Very good pro at Black Bush, Dunshaughlin. i got my clubs there and got fitting free. Has very good practice facilities to properly fit you out.

Think I remember custom fitting price as been either €30 or €50, however a simple phone call to them would clarify that.

depending on where you buy clubs, if you can't buy them at your correct lie, then you could ask whoever you get to fit clubs with to just take the measurements, then modify your new clubs when purchased, so you but correct shaft flex, lie then modified later - may be an option?

Courtesy of google, two other options.

Keep an eye on cObra website for demo days, link below

Carton House / National Acaemy are Cobra affiliated aswell, see link below

    Troll much??

You rip off another posters username and come on slating quality brand name equipment in your first few posts?

    Good luck with that.

Back on topic, custom fitting is important, but don't forget the guy who is fitting you is always looking to sell you clubs, not just fit you.

KZG are widely considered some of the best clubs money can buy. Just because they don't spend millions on sponsorship and advertising doesn't make them 'crap'.

Yeah would say that fella in Blackbush would be good to get fitted by. He's actually the coach of the Maguire twins.

Real good practice facilities in Blackbush, quality range, pitching area and two putting greens. Obviously this time of year not sure what type of nick there in. Maybe best leaving it a week or two before getting them fit, think about it thecon I doubt you’ll be able to play on any parkland for the next while with this frost.

    Dear lord...so much slating already!!!

For your information, i had numerous lessons with a pro before i purchased the KZG clubs and there wasnt all that much to change, just a tweak here and there. But when i came back to the pro with my new clubs (KZG)for another couple more lesson, he said that my flight was much better and i was getting more distance/carry in each club than i had with the previous set (Wilson di7). He tried the club himself and was impressed with it!!!

I have a set of KZG proevolution heads on Dynamic Gold s300r shafts. They are regularly voted the best custom head, you can only apprecaite how they feel when you use them. On the issue of cost; I previously played Taylormade RAC IIs which at purchase cost €650. The fitted KZGs where around €1000. If I had an issue with quality, believe me I'd post it. I couldn't be happier with the clubs which I have used for 2yrs now. Get custom fitted with the right equipment (well known brand or otherwise).

Lads, anyone who knows anything about golf clubs knows that they are quality, all we're doing is entertaining some spotty schoolchild who is bored!

I would have to agree with you there JCDUB i think you should be able to go to a centre and get a independent custum fit.
Cant help but feel that a shop will push you to a set of higher profit.

Someone like Fore Golf will fit you and give you all your details/lofts/lies/shafts etc. with no obligation to buy. You pay for the thorough fitting service.

If the op poster is looking to stay with Cobra irons his best bet is to book into the Titleist fitting centre in Carton House - they do both Titleist and Cobra equipment and the guy out there really knows his stuff. Its a class set-up, I've been out a few times as he's a good mate, but I'm a dyed in the wool Mizuno man (for irons anyway) !:D Unfortunately its only Titleist and Cobra fittings that they do, so if you want TM, Mizuno, Cally etc you'd have to go elsewhere, but they do use your existing clubs as a base for the fitting so its easy to see any differences. Plus, unless you're dead set on a particular brand, chances are that there will be a Titlesit or Cobra set that "fits" you. Most major manufacturers make quality equipment nowadays anyway or they wouldn't be "major manufacturers" IMO.

Also, they don't sell clubs out there so there's no pressure to buy.
