    hi there,

I was just onto Meteor and they said that the Broadband To Go won't connect to any other device other than a PC or Laptop. Shame really.

You could buy a 3g wireless router, i saw one in peats for €79 yesterday. If you go over to the midband forum theres a couple of threads covering this topic

    are you on xp/vista/7?

a 3G connection can be shared wirelessly from your laptop to another wireless device, or another PC connected through LAN on your laptop

    for windows 7:

    1. Connect to your 3G network.
    2. Go to Network and Sharing Center (Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center)
    3. Click on the 3G connection.
    4. Click Properties at the bottom.
    5. Go to Sharing tab. Check the box “Allow others network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection”. In the dropdown box, select “Wireless Network Connection“. Once done, click the Settings button.
    6. Check the last box “Web Server (HTTP)”. This will allow other computer to access Internet via this connection.
Click OK to return to the Network and Sharing center.
    7. Next, click on the “Set up a new connection or network
    8. Scroll down until you find the option “Set up a wireless ad hoc network”. Select it.
    9. Give this network a name and a password. Click Next.
    10. On the next screen, click “Turn on Internet Connection sharing”.

Thats it, any device can connect wirelessly to your laptop and have the 3G connection shared. Connecting through LAN should work too. Wirless devices require the password you created to access the 3G network. LANned cables should not require anything other than just connecting directly to it :)

Cherryghost, can it be done on XP?

You can, but in personal experience it can be a bit fiddly. maybe it was just my XP, but it wasnt always able to share the connection.

    1. Connect to your 3G network*
    2. Go to Control Panel -> Network Connections and locate your 3G internet connection’s dialer. Right click and select properties.
    3. From the properties window, select the Advanced tab. Tick the check box for to enable Internet Connection Sharing. Select Wireless Network Connection to enable sharing via WiFi.
    4. At the taskbar (bottom right side), right click on your the Wireless Network Connection icon. A window opens to let you choose a wireless network.
    5. On the left side of the window, click on the Change advanced settings link. You will be directed to the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.
    6. On this window, click the Wireless Network tab. Click the Add button to create a new wireless network. Make sure you tick the check box at the lower left side of the window to make your new wireless network an ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network. You can choose to leave out a password and such, but you should just in case.

That SHOULD be it. *you dont have to be connected to the 3G network to set it up, but its hit and miss sometimes. XP will sometimes identify that you have a 3G connection but are not connected, and let you share the connection anyway. But sometimes you need to be connected to the internet to share it. If you're setting up, I recommend you always be connected. Sometimes there are also issues connecting to the ad hoc network you created, its just a case of retrying it a few times.

A bit stupid I know, but its a feature of XP Microsoft never bothered fixing :/
