thinking about making this change but due to spend a fortune

i like the merc but noticing the price of boxsters i'd be tempted. At 26 will have to go for the 2.7 but don't drive fast anyway so its not an issue

    feedback appreciated

I'm not sure you can compare both as they are chalk and cheese, both totally different cars so it really depends what you want from a car.

Seems like you're comparing apples and oranges there.

The C220CDi isn't exactly a sporty car. Interior is a bit low rent for the price and it's very expensive to tax based considering the power you get. The C220CDI isn't the last word in refinement either, and the image is a bit hairdresser for my liking. A post 2004 model would be a better bet, as most of the electronic problems were sorted then, as well as a much better interior but your budget won't cover it.

Boxster would be much better to drive but I wouldn't fancy the maintenance on any 12 year old Porsche. They're not a motor to run on a budget.

If it were up to me I'd look at a Mazda MX5, Audi TT, Honda S2000 or Alfa GT before either of them. If you're hooked on the idea of a Merc, the SLK200K would be my chioce. Get one for roughly the same price as a C220 Coupe, much quicker, classier and cheaper on tax!

not really in the same league but I'd reckon the boxster would be nicer to live with for sure, service wise it'll probably cost a little more including brakes and tyres but both are very straightforward cars to work on anyway.I had a boxster for a day and it was nice to drive and always turns heads too, can't say the same for the merc but the 220cdi in 6 speed manual can be a bit of crac on twisty roads were you get to use the good diesel torque

see i bought the merc about 3 years ago and needed it in diesel. wanted something that looked some bit sporty yet good on juice. thankfully my long commutes are now finished and do not need diesel

uh i dont know....the merc has high mileage (155k) but is well maintained and still looks great. probably be better off trying to sell privately but reckon the tax costs could put off buyers

If you don't drive fast then I don't see the point of a Boxster? Something with 6 cylinders and auto will be far nicer to float around in.
