    Leinster Senior Cross Country
Calling all cross country runners - Leinster Senior and Junior Cross country will take place next Sunday 10th January 2010 in Kilmacow, Co. Kilkenny, hosted by St Senan's Athletic club.
With all the cancellations of races over the Christmas period due to the bad weather why not start the New Year with a race.....and where better to start but with the Leinster Senior and Junior events!
Where will you get a race with an entry fee of only €5 per individual or €20 for a club team of up to 10 runners. (Junior club team €15). County teams also.
Entries to Sports Development Navan, or will be taken on the day.
Full results for all finishers (with times) up on Leinster website within 24 hours.

With the new M7/M9 motorway open its just a short hop from the northern part of the province to Kilmacow.
Entries and post race refreshments and presentations will take place in Kilmacow Community Hall which is approx 400m from the race venue.
Juvenile Inter club relays U12/U14/U16 (last years age groups) get proceedings under way at twelve midday.
    Junior Women 3K 1.15pm
    Junior men 6K 1.30pm
Senior Women 5K 1.45pm followed by Senior Men.

Anybody know the men's distance? I'm assuming 10km. What's the course like down there?.

yes its 10k according to Leinster Athletics website - no idea about the course. I wonder will this be cancelled with the weather forecast, state of the roads etc?
Conditions forecast are pretty similar to what we experienced over the new year.

would be great if Leinster Athletics made the decision on whether this is going ahead or not in a timely manner. I hear they are a bit last minute.

Calling all Leinster Cross country runners!

The re-fixed provincial cross country takes place on Sunday 14th Feb in Kilmacow, Co Kilkenny. This is an ideal opportunity for teams to stretch their legs before the National Inter clubs. The Carlow bypass is now open and reduces the journey to South Kilkenny. With entries for a club team only €15 for up to 10 runners it is also great value for money. The original entries still stand but we will take late entries on the day. The races also incorporate inter county Championships, entry fees €20 per team. Events kick off with the juvenile relays at 12 midday. Junior Women 3K at 1pm, junior men 6K at 1.20pm, senior women 5K at 1.50pm and senior men 10K at 2.20pm. Looking forward to having representation from all over Leinster.

Seems like a good time to kick this one back into touch. Predictions?

i would guess this will be the poorest leinsters in years, not many will travel to kilmacow out side of the south east. this time of the year the cross country season is nearly over and with it a week before the nationals any serious athlete would look to avoid a tough 10km race probaly in soft conditions before a major championships. i would expect more athletes to compete in enniscorthy on the road. for the record i have always ran the leinsters and wuld have raced if it was last weekend and give me 2 weeks to prepare for the nationals. i would expect brian maher to win easy with 2 unknowns in 2nd and 3rd.

Two really good senior xc races today, both had convincing winners in Brian Maher and Pauline Curley. I'm putting some shots on racepix at the moment. Managed to get a few bits of video as well.

    Stupid_private ran a stormer.

It was a long trip down from dublin but well worth it for a great race. The ground conditions on the course was very good which allowed for some good running. A short sharp incline on each lap seems to get steeper in gradient each lap. Stupid_Private did run a stormer! I tried my best to hold him off on the last lap to no avail (only to be reminded by my coach after i crossed the line that a weeks sking in febuary isn't the best preparation). Raheny ran away with the team gold, but there seemed to be a good battle between SW and LV for the next paces. Happly enough we got second in the team, and stupid_P and I filled out the dublin county team.

In terms of numbers attending it was very poor. I would say that the teams that win the county titles should be expected to field a team at the provinical race, rather than holding out till the national.

Well organised race, nice course, dry underfoot. Cheers for photos but did you have to take them at the top of that god-forsaken incline? ;)
