i am going purchasing a HP G61-110sa laptop. it has a 4GB memory and 320GB hard drive & windows 7 and it is costing €475 and i getting it from PC world . it comes with a 12 month warranty. i have the option to pay €115 for a 3 year warranty pr €141 for a 5 year warranty. i am just wondering if i should pay the extra for the extra warranty. is it worth it . do people here get the extra warranty when getting a laptop

I wouldn't. Especially after hearing about how pcworld handle any repairs. That's just me though.

I would normally balance the cost of the warranty with the cost of the laptop. And of course, you have to take into account how good the warranty cover will be - ive heard of people being refused warranty repair for stupid reasons (such as Apple refusing to work on a smokers laptop, or manufacturers claiming there is evidence of water damage when there isn't).

And somewhere like PC World is notoriously difficult to deal with.

Theres no hard and fast rule though, sometimes you just have to go with your gut. With such a cheap laptop, and buying from PC World, i'd be inclined to agree with Alan. Your call though.

It's a warranty that covers both systemic failure and also physical damage. If you're going to be on-the-move a lot, then yes, it's worth €30-40 a year. Remember, it covers replacement of an equal or better model, and I know for a fact that all specifications must be met upon replacement---no matter how obscure:cool:
